Now that the Wonder is sailing to Sydney will San Diego see the Magic more often? I hope so! Anxiously awaiting fall 2024 to be announced now.

I've wondered if DCL is going to beef up their West coast sailings as the new ships come. My guess is the Wish/Treasure will do the 3/4 day cruises. Now that there is a new island maybe they add even more 3/4 day and leave the magic there OR my guess was taking her to the West Coast.

I've been trying to catch the Wonder to book it because I'm dying to try all the ships and lately I'm not sure what's going to happen with her. With how popular the Australian sailings seem to be I'm sure DCL is going to be looking into ways to stay in that market.
I’m hoping so.

Or, in my dreams it would be the Fantasy in 2024. Leave Magic in FL with her cruises to Lighthouse Point.
I remember a discussion before about how the Fantasy/Dream can't go through the panama canal due to size so they'd have to go all the way around South America. So I'd assume unless its a permanent move I can't imagine them spending that kind of money to move the ship.

They expanded the canal a while back, they should be able to get through now.

They can go through the canal now. The Magic and Wonder in their current iteration with the duck tail wouldn’t fit though the original locks.

I assume if the Magic goes west again, the Fantasy will go to FLL to replace her. So it would just be the Wish & Treasure in PC.

The Magic will be sailing out of SD for two months this Fall (Oct to Dec) so assuming she will be back for Fall 2024. Hopefully they release those itineraries in the coming weeks.

I remember reading on this forum that it wasn't the length of the Fantasy/Dream, but their height being too much to fit under at least one of the bridges in the canal. Other data welcome, especially if I'm wrong.

You are correct. Too tall to fit under the bridge.

We were able to book a 'Very Merry' cruise on the Magic the week after Thanksgiving. Based on your post, could we expect that there would be additional itineraries for Fall/Winter '23 time frame? We really wanted to book a 'Very Merry' in the middle of Dec, but there were very little itineraries to choose from during our time of booking. Sorry in advance for my lack of experience with cruise itineraries.

Somewhere on Scott’s DCL blog there is a Dream fact sheet with her above water height (don’t know the technical term.) She can fit under the bridge.

Looks like there's four Very MerryTime sailings from San Diego with the last one being December 3, 2023, which is a Panama Canal cruise ending in Galveston. Then the Magic has two Very MerryTime cruises from Galveston.

These daily schedule pages on the Disney Cruise Line Blog are really useful:

I don’t think I have ever seen Disney add cruises to their offerings once it is published. I have seen other companies drop an itinerary or change it to another ship, but Disney does not have number of ships available to do that.

A cruise may be cancelled - even if nearing its sailing date - usually due to weather.

One day, you may be the one with the experience. Hope you have a great cruise. Merry Christmas!

Disney’s agreement with Port Everglades has a required number of annual cruise passengers. And it increases after the first couple of years. This is not like when they were trying to get a spot in Bermuda or Alaska. This is a commitment of 400,000 cruisers in year 1, then 450,000 in year 2, and 750,000 in years 3-15.

8K per week in the first year. That’s a big ship, nearly full, twice a week. Or a 7-night on Dream class + 2 sailings on fairly full ships. Makes me think the Wish is going to sail out of this port at some point, allowing guests to sail the Treasure out of PC.

Are West Coast sailings doing well? Capacity-wise?

Again, my thoughts. Some are facts, others just opinion. Some are based on old memories.

The clearance on the bridge of the americas is 201 feet. The dream class ships are listed as a height of 216 feet. Not sure if that's just the air draft or the entire ship

Edit- found the drawing, the over height including below waterline is 217 feet. The air draft above the water line is 188 feet so it will fit

Thank you for providing the link to this website. The information on the webpage answers my question now and most likely future ones. :)

Thanks for the advice. Hahaha...still a few months away, but Merry Christmas to you and your family as well. :)

You’re right, they do fit. But this comes up often enough that I wish that they would send either the Dream or the Fantasy through the canal at least once, so that it is irrefutably established that they fit, and the confusion can be put to bed once and for all, lol.

I would love to do a Panama Canal cruise on either the Dream or the Fantasy. I just don’t love the magic class of ships. The pool deck feels a little closed in to me on the Magic ships and my son much prefers vibe on the Dream class (it’s tiny on the Wish as well)
