Why is All Star Sports so cheap?

We are traveling March 25-31st and have never stayed at a Disney value resort before. I’m trying to figure out why all star sports is so inexpensive even compared to music and movies? We typically stay at a two bedroom condo at Wyndham bonnet creek or a deluxe Disney resort. Unfortunately inflation and spring break prices are like a kick between the legs. It wasn’t that long ago we could swing six day park tickets and seven nights at a deluxe resort. Now we are hoping for just two park days, a water park, and six nights.

So like- is the pool bad? Is the food court lackluster? Are the grounds rundown? Are the rooms uncomfortable? Is it like the worst place for transportation? 🤔

I have stayed at all three AS resorts. The rooms are laid out the same in all three, the pools are similar, the food courts and shops are similar. The transportation is also virtually identical. The only reason Sports gets a bad rap is because athletic groups sometimes stay there during competition. I think the slightly lower prices are an effort to counterbalance that reputation. I have enjoyed staying there just as much as staying at Movies or Music.

I prefer Pop since I spend more time at Epcot and the Skyliner is nice, but you can’t beat AS when it comes to saving money.

I was just there in January for Marathon Weekend, didn't have any issues. Can't speak to the pool (it looked nice enough, pretty basic) but the room was totally fine, everything was clean, nothing seemed rundown. Food court was mediocre for the most part, although they have a couple of stir fry options that are pretty solid. Can't really compare to other resort food courts though.

I just got back from ASSp and loved it! Would definitely stay there again. It's known for having the shortest walks to the lobby because of the compact resort layout.

In my experience the All-Stars are usually the same price. What you may be seeing is that Movies and Music are sold out of standard rooms, so all that's left at those hotels are the more expensive preferred rooms.

Anyway, if you can get a room for cheap, I say book it and count your blessings!

For whatever reason, AS Sports is in the save up to 25% category for this Spring's sale, while AS Movies and AS Music are in the save up to 15% category. So, you can pay less at Sports for the same room category, even if the rack rates were the same.

The difference.... Teens, teens, TEENS. Mostly school sports teams.
1 teacher per 25 teens.
The groups take over the resort. Food court, buses, pool, the courtyard.
Most schools due lock the students in their rooms at night by taping the doors. That way if the door is opened, teachers know.

It's loud and far from everything. I had people talking in their room above me and I heard everything until they finally went to sleep at 2am. I woke up at 6am because a neighboring unit flushed their toilet and it was so loud it startled me. If you can afford to avoid it, then avoid it. You can also check https://www.espnwwos.com/events/ to see if there are any competitions when you stay. You might have better luck if there's nothing going on while you're there. I've only stayed once and it was during a cheer competition, so I probably had the worst expiernece you could have.

Oh wow, that's wild! I would definitely book it and not look back, lol.

WDWOswald, the only drawbacks I can think of would be these:

1. There is probably less space in the room than you are used to (maybe look at some YouTube videos to get a feel for the size of the room).

2. The food court will be the only dining option on-site, and while the food is decent, it's not spectacular. (Personally, I feel like it was better even a few years ago than it is now.)

If you don't think those things would bother you, I would give the value resorts a try--they are so much more charming in person than in pictures.

Everyone has their own preferences, but personally I've been pleasantly surprised by the All-Stars--I started staying there because they were cheap, but I kept staying there because I like them!

They might be cheap, but they are certainly not bad. We’ve stayed at all three AS resorts multiple times, and our kids are split between preferring Movies and Music, the wife and I preferred sports surprisingly. We mostly take the kids swimming to the secondary, less crowded pool, and our favorite is the Goofy
hockey secondary pool at Sports. The rooms
are small but incredibly functional, the food court is charming and spacious, and the grounds are spread out and lovely! The buildings in each section are themed to a different topic in the overall theme in the hotel as in all of the All Stars, but what we loved about Sports is that, in the tennis and football sections, the space between the buildings is turf instead of regular concrete walkways, so it felt like having a park for the kids to run around, roll about, and even take naps on, right in front of your room! It sounds silly, but it’s one of those nice Disney things you end up enjoying! So don’t be scared, it’ll be probably more than fine if you go in with the right expectations!

I appreciate the input everyone! It sounds like we would have a good time with our sports obsessed 10 year old boy. My biggest concern is noise from other rooms- quality sleep is essential!

You're gonna have that as a potential problem at the majority of resorts even some deluxe.
My recommendation is get a white noise sound machine. I have a very small one that I take to Disney and it has like 9 different noises and its funny because my sister and I will go through all of them and we always come back to the first one.
