Where to stay in GA along I-75

We are coming from Indiana going down I-65 and I-75. We hope to go a little more than half way on the night down. We are looking to stay somewhere along I-75 in GA. Can anyone recommend nice exits with hotels & restaurants? I worry about getting off in the wrong area especially if we decide to stop in Atlanta. We are hoping though to get down a little further than that. It's hard looking at the internet at places because you really don't know what the areas are like.
Also do most of you just drive and stop and find a place or do you try and make reservations? I really don't want to make reservations anywhere because we want to drive as long as we can on the first day.
Thanks

When I am splitting up my drive and need to stay just south of Atlanta, I stay at the Quality Inn off of exit 3 on 475S

Quality Inn (GA725)
4630 Chambers Rd. , Macon, GA, US, 31206

Easy on/off of 475 (bypass around Macon).

My Valdosta choices are:

Quality Inn South (GA037)
1902 W. Hill Ave. , Valdosta, GA, US, 31601

which is right at Exit 16 just North of the Florida Line.

I always try to get past Atlanta before I stop for the night. It takes a BIG load off my mind. Try the Suburbs just south of Atlanta, or go down to Macon

I like Tifton a bit futher south but they have some nice hotels. We stayed at the Ramada Inn in May. For some reason I don't like Valdosta, sorry but I just don't.

I travel I-75 through Georgia regularly. If your goal is to get through Atlanta before stopping (and whose isn't?) Jonesborough is the first town south on 75 that's safe and has good hotels. A little farther down the line, Forsythe, Macon and Perry are good bets, then Cordele and Tifton. Any of these have a nice selection of hotels and restaurants right on the interstate (my personal preference when I travel is Days Inn).

I've never had a problem getting a room in any of these cities but I always make a reservation (since the one time I didn't I pulled into Nashville in the middle of an international Baptist youth convention and had to backtrack 30 miles to find a room...so I don't push my luck which is lousy to start with).

Hi there  , we're just across the river from Louisville and this is the same route we go. We've stayed twice at the Best Western in Acworth - it's just before you get to Atlanta, but then we get up early and get through Atlanta first thing. Not sure of the exit, but it's Hwy 92 (Cowan Road). My report on this hotel is on Tripadvisor under Acworth hotels. Inexpensive, clean, quiet, easy access, and continental breakfast. If you just want to 'wing it' and see how far you can get, I'd suggest researching hotels and making a list by exit number, so you kind of know what to expect. Also, if you stop at the GA Welcome Center you can pick up a hotel coupon book that sometimes has some good values.
If you go on a weekend, drive straight through Atlanta instead of the bypass around it. Also, when we drove last September and again at Christmas, we went through Lexington and picked up I-75 there instead of going through Nashville. Nashville's busy at every hour anymore, and even though we didn't save much time, we also didn't encounter a lot of traffic. And it's more scenic to boot. They were widening I-75 in Chatanooga, but even with construction traffic was moving and it was better than Nashville.
Good luck!

P.S. We decided to splurge and fly this Sept! :sunny:

Look on this website: www.i75exitguide.com If you click on Georgia, it gives you the hotels/fast food/gas at every exit on I-75. We stayed at a Hampton Inn near the FL/GA border -- but I would not recommend the place!

You guys are great! :woohoo: Thanks for all the info especially the website with all the I-75 exit info.

Valdosta, Ga. has several Hampton Inns and also a new Country Inn and Suites. :Pinkbounc
