Whats the scoop with the resort casual dress code

We have 5:30PM ADR's for Jiko and we are staying off-site. After a day in the parks we really do not want to go back to our hotel and then return to WDW. What is this dress code and do they really enforce it.

If you wear sneakers, a nice non-blue jean pair a shorts and a solid color t-shirt, will that be OK.

I would STRONGLY advise going back your room at little early and getting resort casual ready. A collared shirt, a nice pair of pants (my brother went there with khakis) and shoes. It's not specified whether or not socks may be worn them so I'll leave that up to your discretion. Same goes the ladies...a dress or a blouse with a decent pair of slacks. Of course, the ladies have vastly greater shoe selection on the whole.

The ONLY reason I felt like I had to chime in on this topic is that Jiko is second only to Victoria & Albert's...it's THAT good!!!

I have been to Jiko many times and have seen both ends of the dress spectrum. No one will give you a second look if you are wearing a colored t-shirt and shorts. Rule of thumb at Disney, wear what makes "you" comfortable, not others.

Specifically what are the restaurants that you shouldn't wear park casual (t-shirt-shorts-tennis shoes)?

Thanks! :groom:

Yes, just last weekend I saw a guy (at Jiko) in long basketball shorts, Nike 'Just Do It' tee shirt and flip flops and no one looked at him crosseyed.

I think, and I may be wrong (it has happened once, or twice...) that all of Disney's Signature Dining (2 TS credits if you are on the DP) require business casual dress. Victoria and Albert's requires a jacket for men and nice attire for women.

V&A's is the only restaurant consistently sticky about their dress code.

Aside from V&A's, CG is the only other restaurant I've heard of any problems and even that is very, very infrequent.

The only place that really would care is Victoria and Alberts. It's not like they will throw you out so you can go back to your room and change. They are there to serve you and please you enough so thet they will get return business. Just as long as you don't go in with a fanny pack...

Jeans are fine at the Signature restaurants as long as they are not torn - this came from a CM this week when I called. Not sure about the plain t-shirt - I know a polo would be safer.

Yes, the only thing you described that does not comply with the letter of the law is the solid t-shirt, as the code does say no t-shirts. (Jean shorts are fine by the way.)

However, from most accounts it is very unlikely you will encounter any issues. Solid t-shirts (not undershirts) are worn in a lot of places today as business/resort casual, especially by women, but also by men.

If you want to be 100% safe, bring a nicer shirt and either carry it in the park or put it in a locker.

But I'd just go for it and not worry about it.

That's true, but you get a better table if dressed apporopriately, whatever that is. Great place to eat. Stop into the bar after dinner. It's a nice experience.

Dress Code/Attire: Business Casual
Men: Dress slacks, jeans, trousers, or dress shorts, short or long-sleeved shirt with a collar required. Jackets are optional.
Ladies: jeans, skirts, or dress shorts with blouse or sweater, or a dress required. Not permitted in dining room: t-shirts (dress t-shirts are permitted), tank tops, swimming suits or swim suit cover ups, hats for gentleman, cut offs, or torn clothing of any kind.

The last time we ate at Jiko we saw eveything from business casual to "I just left the park and didn't feel like changing". My DH wore khakis and an oxford style dress shirt with loafers. My DDs and I wore summery dresses and flat closed toe shoes (we were told no sandals by a CM when I made the ressie). We were probably the most "dressed up" party in the restaurant. Later in the evening a large group came in dressed in sport team t-shirts, shorts, and baseball caps. They were not asked to leave nor told to remove their hats.
If your DH looks presentable, then you should not have a problem. If you are still worried, as another poster suggested, have your DH bring an extra polo shirt to the park and change in the restroom.

PatriciaH has listed the current dress code for Jiko.
IT can also be found here:

Do they really enforce it??
The problem ,of course, IS the enforcement of the dress code. Hit or miss. And mostly (it seems ) miss. We read of folks wearing "non-coded" items to signature restaurants with no problems--then we read of restaurants such as Artist Point where folks were made to put on a polo shirt OVER their T-shirts!!
So who knows??

Just as an aside, the term "dress t-shirt" does not appear on that WDW official site.

Absolutely that would be ok. The dress code is only suggested, not enforced.
We have done it both ways, straight from the park and changing before hand. Either way, they will seat you, and give you great food and service.
Go and enjoy.

I wouldn't want to fight that traffic just to change for dinner either, and it definately isn't necessary.

Resort casual is not required...not required..not required.

V&A's is the only place the dress code is enforced.

Definately not necessary. We dine at Jiko, Artist Point and Flying Fish quite often because we are close. Even the host/hostesses at the restaurants when you arrive say..come on in..we don't enforce that dress code. I am guessing they repeat that over and over again many times each night..yes, we have heard them doing this.

WDW needs to wise up like DL did many years ago. Park attire is fine, after all people are on vacation and it doesn't take long to get to 50 pounds in the luggage if you are flying.

What you have on has no bearing at all on what table you get..believe me!! Now I have heard it all.
