What to do with 48 in-bankable points?

Well it finally happened - we had to cancel a trip we had planned and we had borrowed som points for it. Now I have 48 points that were borrowed that can’t be banked. What would you do with so few points?

- They have to be used by end of August (September use year) and we don’t think we can make a trip by then.
- We’ve never transferred points to anyone and it seems to risky to deal with strangers on the internet for something like this
- We’ve rented out points before using an intermediary , but who would want only 48 points?

Should we just take our lumps and accept the points disappearing into the ether? Or is there an option I haven’t thought of?

I would recommend renting on here or with a broker.

People that only want a few nights in a studios could use them.

The years we go 2 weeks I always need more points. Unfortunately, I am going with my daughter's family this year on a cash stay. But I agree try to rent on here. Plus the moderators or others who have rented will have good advice.

I would never take my lumps on 48 points. I would try a transfer even knowing that there's a small risk. Lots of members find themselves just a little bit short on points for the year. Price them to sell quickly and request payment upfront before the transfer takes place. The risk is on the receiver and not the sender.

What is risky about transferring 48 points to a stranger? You both have to be on the line with member services.

As others have said, I’d offer them up on the Rent/Transfer forum.

Are they restricted or unrestricted points?

That could mean three nights in some lower prices studios. I'm not an owner, but I'd rent. The risk is really with the renter as you have the power to cancel reservations if they fail to pay you.

Someone who is an owner who already has a reservation made within 7m could just switch these points out (via a transfer) and then potentially bank their points. So… there is definitely value.

I agree that you could rent them, although finding a reservation might be tough since your deadline to complete travel is September and it's almost February. I suggest you transfer them, which is more valuable to a receiver and a better choice if you don't expect to have to transfer anything else this year.
