What happens if you cancel an RCI exchange reservation?

Let's say I use 160 DVC points to trade for an RCI week and after I agree to the match I have to cancel. What happens? I assume I lose the $95 fee but do I have any options for the points? I know I should know this but I don't and I am too lazy to go and dig out all my DVC documents. Thanks for anyone who is willing to pamper me with a readymade answer.

Cancellations 60 or more days from arrival will allow you make another request within a year of the cancellation and with another $95 fee.

Cancellation 59 - 14 days before arrival allow you make another reservation calling 59 days - 24 hours before arrival. Again, within 1 year and with another $95 fee.

Cancellation 13 - 7 days ahead allow for making a new reservation 30 days - 24 hours before arrival. This must be done within a year and with another $95 fee.

Cancellation 6 days or less before arrival results in forfeiting the exchange.

When the points are committed to the World Passport Collection thsy can no longer be used for any options in the DVC program.

Good luck! :)

Those are not the RCI cancellation policies as it relates to DVC. Here is the info I saw last.

If a reservation is cancelled 45 or more days before the check-in date:
Full number of Vacation Points used for the reservation is returned into your RCI exchange account. You may request additional exchange accommodations through RCI, but travel must occur by December 31 of the following calendar year and an additional non-refundable US$95 transaction fee must be paid.

If reservation is cancelled 44 – 7 days before the check-in date:
Full number of Vacation Points used for the reservation are returned into your RCI exchange account, but may only be used for exchange accommodations through RCI, reserved within 44 days to 24 hours prior to your new check-in date; travel must occur by December 31 of the following calendar year and an additional non-refundable US$95 transaction fee must be paid.

If reservation is cancelled 6 or less days before the check-in date:
The exchange is forfeited and no Vacation Points are returned.
Some good news and some bad comparatively. Unlike RCI directly, there is no 24 hour grace period on cancellations.

of the following calendar year

So if you cancel in, say, February of 2010 you have until December of 2011 to rebook? Or am I reading that wrong?
Since unexpected cancellations may be a partt of life for us, I want to make sure I "get" this. Thanks for the help. I have used Concierge Collection but never World Passport.

You have the same info I have but that's the way I read it. I don't plan on testing it through DVC as I won't likely exchange using DVC. The rules are somewhat different than either RCI weeks OR RCI points for direct members. You should likely clarify with DVC exchange department and realize it could change. Let us know if you find out anything different.

can you get decent reservations somewhere with RCI if you have to book it in under 59 days?

It depends. In general the short notice inventory with RCI comes under 2 groups. The things that no one wanted and the luck of the draw to hit something that someone else canceled or was deposited late for some reason. If you look at the value of a short notice deposit on RCI or II, it's really not that much. One point though, I think the short notice cutoff for RCI is 45 days not 60 like it was with II. In general you can get good options shoulder and off season and in over saturated areas like Branson or LV. This is one of the big negatives with DVC limiting you to only about 10% of the total RCI inventory.
