What happened to the thread about getting off the bus before scooters?

I always thought it would be better for everyone if Disney provided separate, on-demand shuttle vans for the ECVs. I am equally sure there is a good reason why they don't though.
Accessible Minnie Vans are available for gue$t$ intere$ted. Disney is looking to reduce expenses. $$$ is a good reason, from Disney's perspective

The buses would be a lot more efficient if they didn't have to spend so much time getting the ECVs on and off them. Yeah, they can charge for the Minivans, but with the increased efficiency of the buses you could justify the cost of the on-demand shuttles. It would be great publicity if you just provided them to the people with ECVs for free too.

My thinking anyway. I know, crazy talk...

It just seems to have vanished.

Some people on this forum are always snarky to others and there are some who think getting away with it for years is a pass to continue the behavior. The ignore button is an option. :) You can find that by hovering over a name and just select ignore. Just do not block a moderator. Pretty sure you get banned for that. 😃

Rent an ECV and get free on demand transportation. Do you see an issue?
Renting an ECV is not free and riding one around the parks is not the picnic one might assume it is. I guess you could leave it just inside the park? Maybe you could require DAS or proof of age when they are rented out? I dunno - when there is a will there is a way, but there will also always be someone who has found a way to skirt the system. Just saying that the ECV procedures on buses has long been a problem that is irritating but is never brought up so as not to offend. We are all on vacation after all.

My wife uses a scooter. We follow procedure and use Disney transportation. Occasionally we'll use a Mears accessible taxi.

Suggesting complimentary on demand transportation is over the top, JMO. It's a service far superior to what is offered to other guests.

It just seems weird that someone would get angry over that. It makes more sense for other people to get off first so it’s easier to maneuver the ECV.

Just a guess here, but it may be a matter of guests who do not have much "Disneying" under their belt, may not understand that those of us who have been so many times know the processes and we follow it....they find some things rude, while those of us who "know the ropes" mean no harm.

I will give you this as an example....
I have been going to Disney since 2000 (or earlier). Unless it is crowded, CMs will tell you to fill in space before entering the stretching room. Out of habit, a small group of us did that. There was a woman being passive aggressive about; she thought we were cutting. She was about 300 lbs (not picking on her weight) and she was using her size to shove people in the group as she said "excuse me". A CM came out and told people to move forward and she mentioned "others cutting", and the CM told her that it will not matter once they get in the stretching room, we are all headed to the same place. Lady did not like it. In the stretching room, she used her size again to push certain people away from the entrance. Somebody told her "you are way too big to be doing all that" and she mentioned cutting (outside) again.

I have seen this same scenario at Dinosaur in the "holding room".

And then, some people a really are just entitled jerks who have a "me first" mentality.

So, segregation of individuals based on their having a disability?

Disney would need to have at least twice many ecv vehicles as buses. Remember, buses carry up to three ecvs.

You'd also run into issues with pickup/drop off locations. The ecv vehicles would use the same locations as the buses for loading and loading. That would likely cause conflict in loading and raise complaints.

Are you going to segment parties? You can't effectively limit who can accompany a guest very easily- one able-bodied adult, one wheelchair //ecv user with assistance nerds and two kids under 7 can't be readily split.

Are you going to provide everyone using an ecv with a phone or other device to request a vehicle?

The ADA act requires that the buses be accessible. Disney would be sued in a heartbeat by the shady activists that go around looking for things to use for. A local restaurant in my area got sued because the bathroom door was a half inch smaller than what the act requires. In Hawaii the transit system got sued and lost even though they were in compliance. They put seats on the front wheel housings and had a small step to get up to the seats. A standard wheelchair would still fit. The person who sued had a bigger wheelchair and couldn't fit. The judge against the system.
