Ok, im on the delta site trying to get the lowest fare i can. I notice it says cabin and class. The cabin is Coach, and the class listed is U or T. It seems that all the flights with T class are low, about 218 RT like i want. But the flight on the outbound is class U, which brings it up to 263. If the out and return flights are both U, then its 303. What exactly does the class mean and is there a way to get them all to the lower one?? Does this make any sense??

Think of classes of tickets like discount codes for Disney resorts LOL. Each class represents the discount (or non-discount) you are getting. For instance Y class is usually full-fare economy. Discounted classes are available based on dates of travel, available seats, etc, etc. Also, if you are looking to upgrade using status of frequent flier miles or coupons, many of the more discounted classes are non-upgradeable.

Most websites have a "search by price" option, and when you use this option, the search results automatically give you the lowest fare/class available.

I am actually flying Song (owned by Delta) and noticed the same thing. I emailed them and they informed me that they are some type of pricing code. They sell a certain amount of seats at certain prices before lowering or raising the rate. If you want more specifics just email them, they usually get right back to you. (less than 24 hours)

The airlines have a limited number of tickets at each fare class. On DL the "cheapest" fares are generally those in the L, U, T fare codes. The full fare tickets are Y. (T is generally the lowest fare code, U a little more expensive, T etc...) There is a whole range of letters but they don't go any any "reasonable" method!

The codes also generate the restrictions on changes. Fo example on Y you can just can call up and change the flights no standby, no change fees etc... On L, U, T you get charged a change fee and any additional costs if the fare is sold out.

Each "class of service (RE: U, L, T, K...etc.) is a fare, one way of travel, or in each direction of travel. So to get the "lowest" fare, you'd need to find the lowest price class (usually T or U or L) available both ways. Say U is $100 and say T is $150. You find U going to Orlando, and only T coming home. You'd pay $250 instead of $200 (which you would have paid if you could have found U in both directions...to and from Orlando.) Does that make any sense?

Each airlines offers only so many per "class". Say 20 seats at the cheapest, then it jumps up say $50 for the next class, $50 for the next, and so on. What a racket, huh?

No it doesn't make any sense. But its not you -- its the airline industry.

The different "classes" are just differing price tiers. Airlines don't price all their seats the same. Those flights that are expected to be pretty full usually have fewer of the lowest tier (T on delta) seats available. So, in your case you were able to snag a cheap seat on the one leg, but they aren't any left on the other leg. You could try changing the time of day, or even try the next day to see if you can get a better price.
