Ways to maximize savings when purchasing direct DVC contract.. (credit card rewards etc)

Oh so if you choose gift card you have to pay with gift cards for the year? Is there an autopay discount?

Not exactly. You could pay with a gift card, and finish paying balance with other form of payment. What you can’t do after paying any amount with a giftcard is turn the autopay feature back on.

I mention this because it was a common strategy that you may still come across when reading about DVC. It was kind of a ‘double dip’. You could get the discounted gift cards, plus spread dues over the year without paying any interest. Every bit adds up lol.

Does using the autopay come out to be a better deal or 5% target gift cards for the due

Only if I’m desperate am I buying that many at Target since they are only 5% off. I think @VGCgroupie might be the queen of this but I try to get 10% or more off.
Best buy and sams club runs a sale for 10% off i think last year was May and November at Sams but they put limits per membership. You COULD buy a bunch of different memberships and still come out on top with savings but not sure if its worth the hassle 🤣🤣

Check out the gift cards thread.

My grocery store has 10% off every month combined with at minimum 3% back from CC is one of the main sources for me.

Using autopay means you’re paying the full amount of dues, but you’re making payments monthly through the year. Paying with discounted DGCs means your actual outlay is less than the full amount of dues, but you need to have the full amount in DGCs ready to pay no later than February 15.

We used to be able to buy discounted DGCs and make payments throughout the year.

Aw ok bummer

$350 or 350 gift cards?

The minimum card they sell is a $25 one so based on that you are paying $8,312.50 for $8,750.

Now if I pick up the socks and school supplies can I come on your trip? :)
Oh I was just joking about how it'd be funny to pay for an entire $35,000 direct contract with discounted Target redcard gift cards. Imagining the looks I'd get with a pile of 350x $100 DGCs. That'd be some good upfront savings if it was possible!

Do you happen to know if this includes DVC loan payments or just payments initiated as deposit / 30 / 60 / 90? Not sure if they code differently as different department, etc.

Also wanted to update here that we had an offer for no fees on your first Chase Plan / Pay Over Time up to $4K through the end of March, on my spouse’s Disney Visa. Charged exactly $4K and it showed as not eligible for Pay Over Time. Reached out to customer service and they said they have no control to assist, it’s either eligible or it’s not. So it would seem the 6mo 0% on DVC at least, supersedes eligibility for the Pay Over Time option. 🤷‍♀️
That is good to know. I would’ve expected it to be offered the plan.

For the loan payments I think @Lorana might know the answer to this.
Chase cards with the travel rewards earn that amount with DVC Loan payments. I can confirm that both Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Ink Preferred earn 3% back on DVC Loan Payments.

Copying my experience from a different thread:

I play the points and miles "Travel Hacking" game. So for our first DVC purchase, we utilized credit cards for the entire purchase.

We signed up for 2 0% APR cards that had a sign up bonus. One was a Wells Fargo card that gave $500 cash back after minimum spend. The other was the Amex Business Gold card that gave 100k points after minimum spend.

We learned during that process that DVC Title and Escrow would allow you to not only pay your deposit with a credit card (no fee) but also the remaining balance with a credit card (2% fee).

We paid the deposit of $5k with the wells fargo. That gave us the $500 back. We then paid remaining balance with amex
That allowed us to get the sign up bonus and the 2% fee was countered by getting 1% back. So for our 20k contract, we paid $400 extra because of fee. But got 100k points, $500 back and another 20k in rewards. The way we use points, they are more valuable than one cent per point but valuing that as a minimum, we got net $1,300 back using credit cards. And 0% APR for a year. Took us 6 months to pay off but better than waiting or financing.
