Using garage for a party

We're hosting a graduation party for my daughter and her friends Saturday night, but it looks like it could rain, or at least be too muddy for the backyard so I want to use the garage as a backup plan.

Plan A is backyard with lights on the patio gazebo, tiki torches, badmitton, music and dancing.

Plan B is garage. We can still do music and dancing but what can I do to make it look better? It has to be cheap and fast. Anything to take the focus off the tools on the walls and general garage-ness of it.

You could always rent a storage space real fast - find one that has $1 rental for the first month, and store things there until after the party, then go to your local party/craft shop and buy a roll of craft paper to hang from the walls to cover up the tools and stuff. :rotfl:

We've purchased a couple of party tents for my son's graduation party next month. If we have rain that day, we too are stuck with the garage :headache: My plan is to make the party tents sort of an extension from the garage so people can sit and eat or socialize, only problem is there won't be any volleyball or horse shoes, etc.

Maybe you could hang sheets/blankets on the walls over the tools. Maybe even use sharpie markers to write messages to her. The tiki torches could be put in flower pots to hold them and just not light them. Possibly hang "party lights" in the garage. (I saw some at the dollar store the other day) Bring lamps from the house out to the garage instead of using the overhead lights too. :) Hope this helps.

I like the idea of hanging sheets or some type of fabric to dress it up. Party lights, music, tables. Set a yearbook out for people to look through, hang a poster of her or collage of pics and let people sign the matted frame area. Dart boards are inexpensive & maybe ladderball? Go retro, have bean bag toss, hula hoops, limbo, childhood card games.

Go buy plack poly from Lowe's and hang it from the ceiling all around the room. Then buy some cheap plastic table cloths fron the Dollar store in your school colors and hang a few araound the room in front of the black poly. No more tools!

I like the idea of the tiki torches in the pots...then top them off with battery operated candles and hang paper latterns from the ceiling...I saw some battery operated ones at Hobby Lobby that were cute yesterday.

I used disposable plastic table clothes you can get at factory card outlet or similar store. I bought them in the schools colors and put them on the walls alternating the colors. I used a staple gun to attatch them .(We don't have a finished garage) It worked out great and covered everything on the walls. Clean up was easy, just pull them down and throw away or take down nicely and save for next kid to graduate. Good luck!:)

Sounds like it's time to dig out the Christmas tree lights and string them up for twinkle lights. Borrow everyones old torch type floor lamps and ask if the teens have any disco lighting they can bring or rent disco and strobe lighting from a party store. Rent some folding chairs to line the walls.

We had to do this for our Halloween Costume Party last year when it was 31 degrees and snowing the morning of the party. We hung white sheets over the shelving and than decorated with Halloween colored twinkle lights, it looked pretty good. I do like the idea of having everybody sign the sheets and leave messages like a giant yearbook.

Honestly the kids had a great time, have some good music, lots of good food, some places to sit and they won't care at all that they are in the garage. How about some of those disposable cameras to get the party started?
