Using a VPN at WDW

Was wondering if anyone has experience of using a VPN through the wifi at the WDW resorts.

I have used the Internet many times at resorts, but this year there are a few sporting events that DH and DS want to watch through BBC and SKY as we are away for 3 weeks.

I am toying with the idea of using a VPN in order for us to be able to access UK sites but I understand some wifi restricts this usage. I also realise that wifi at WDW can be a bit sketchy at times

Any experiences appreciated

VPN over the Disney WiFi works fine but don't expect to do any sort of meaningful streaming with it.

Ever since they went from paid wired internet to free WiFi it's been dog slow. Sometimes it's so slow you can wait a good 20 - 30 secs for a web page to load!

Maybe it's improved since I was last there but don't count on it.

I'd DVR those games and watch them when you get home.

We were at the Boardwalk last week and the wifi performance when we first checked in was shockingly bad - virtually unusable, but it did improve afterwards. Still not quick, but did manage to get Slingplayer working at standard definition to watch the early morning football on the Sunday morning.

Give it a try - depending on the time of day it might be good enough, and hopefully they will add more capacity over time.

I'm at BW at the moment, WiFi has been ok for the most part with low bandwith things like web pages at all times of day so far but streaming is beyond painful.

I'm considering getting one of these for next trip. Can be bought off the shelf in Walmart, as can the time cards - I'm still not sure how that will hold up for streaming, but there's enough doubt there now with Disney's WiFi to make me look into getting MiFi instead, if for nothing else than just as a backup plus have the added bonus of accessing WiFi on my iphone when outside of the room.
