UPS delivered IPAD to wrong address!

So I ordered an IPAD for my husbands birthday and it was supposed to be delivered today. We got home from work at 3:00PM and I kept watching for this package to be delivered because I was so excited to give it to him. At 6:30 I checked to tracking info from Amazon and not only did it say it was delivered to my house, but it said that it was signed for! My last name was spelled wrong in the place where it says it was signed for by me.

I called UPS and they did nothing. They just kept telling me it was signed for by me and was delivered to my house.

I called Amazon and they were just as much help. They kept telling me the same thing and said that they would issue me a refund. I asked they they send another one out ASAP and they would not do that because it was not sold by them.

I am furious about this! I asked both compaines if they cared that they just delivered a $600 item to someone who clearly forged my name and neither seemed to care. I asked UPS to track down the driver and find out where it was, they said they could not. I asked to see the signature and they said they could not give it to me for 24 hours.

I know I am getting a refund, but I feel like whomever STOLE my item should be held accountable! Am I wrong?

Thats gonna suck for the seller... :\

i wonder how they know its an iPad... Driver should be held accountable if he delivered it to the wrong address...
Edit: i bet the driver signed for it himself/herself!

Please keep us updated. As someone who has on occasion (rarely) sold something expensive through ebay and shipped it UPS, I'm very interested in how this plays out.

That was my first suspicious thought as well!

I dont wanna blame anyone but it would make sense if it were the driver. He had the ipad. He had your address and name.

Id be furious too.

Is there another street with a similar name near you?

I used to live at, as an example, 123 Elm Rd. One block over was Elm St., and it also had a 123. Every once in a while, UPS would accidentally deliver my packages to 123 Elm St., and the nice Mormon missionaries who rented that house would walk them over to my house.

Then we got a new driver, and he started messing up all the time. At the same time, the Mormon missionaries moved out of their rental house, and a new lady who liked to steal things moved in. One day the UPS driver dropped off 5 things for me at her house. He realized his mistake less than 5 minutes later. He went back to the house, but the packages were gone. He rang the doorbell, but she wouldn't answer. He could see her looking out the window at him, though.

UPS continued to make the same mistake for several weeks, and the lady continued to steal my stuff. I understand that it was frustrating for her, but she still shouldn't steal. She should have called UPS if she didn't want to call me or walk to my house. I got fed up and called UPS to complain. They finally put a note on my address that drivers should make sure to deliver to the right address every time a package showed up for me in the delivery schedule, and then my packages started making it to my house.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume it was stolen accidents do happen.

What the... how can a package be delivered to an address where someone else signs the recipients name be an accident? Please, please explain that one.

Yeah, I'm trying to understand that logic. :headache:

Anyone remember this story from December 2012? http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-...UPS-Guy-Steals-Fed-Ex-Package-With-Apple-iPad UPS basically dismissed the father's complaints until he released video that showed the UPS driver taking the iPad that had been delivered by Fedex. After that, UPS took action and fired the driver. The video says it all. :rolleyes1

OP, I'd be just as angry as you are. I hope you get resolution on that end, but it doesn't sound like UPS is inclined to do anything to get to the bottom of it. :sad2:

It's on Amazon to make it right by you, not UPS.

It's on UPS to make it right by Amazon, and really isn't your concern.

But, to help you in your case with Amazon, does the proof of delivery show your address? Many times the delivery address won't match the shipping address.

I can easily see a package accidentally delivered to the wrong address when no signature is required. But how do you "accidentally" sign someone else's name?

That's the truth. Frankly, if it wasn't sent "Fulfillment by Amazon", Amazon doesn't give a crap and will charge back to the seller and s/he will be out of an iPad and the money.

At least the OP will get her refund!

I've seen the Fedex & UPS guys dropping off stuff at work. The Fedex & UPS guys have to TYPE in a legible name into that scanning machine, next to where the signature goes. If the recipient scrawls an unreadable name, sometimes they will ask what the name is, sometimes they just take the name off the delivery label.

Either way, if the person was handed the package to hold first, or just after scrawling in an unreadable name, they can probably take a quick glance at the address label to see who the real recipient is and just read off the name. Someone stealing packages would know to do that.

I know, right? Who here hasn't accidentally signed their neighbors name when a package is delivered?

I'm curious as to why some of you are just 'assuming' that the driver ..or the person who signed for it, would KNOW that there was an Ipod/Iphone in that pkg? It wouldn't have necessarily had those words on the outside of the pkg, would it?

I do hope that Amazon gives the OP a full refund and that she buys it from them, not a marketplace seller, next time!

So file a police report. I was directed to do this by FedEx when the same thing happened, that did spark an investigation.

When the UPS driver delivered my new MacBook Pro and I signed for the package, he said, "Enjoy your laptop". :confused3 I have no idea how he knew what was in the box. Apple doesn't list its full name on shipping labels, just the letters AI. Maybe it"s the shape, weight or color of the box; I don't know exactly, but he knew there was a laptop in the package.
