Tron - and gel kneepads?

I'm taking my 82-year-old, thrill ride-lovin' mom to Disney in a few months. I took her on Tron in 2023. She loved it, but she has a knee issue and she found the pressure uncomfortable. (It needs to be replaced, but she doesn't want to deal with a lengthy recovery so has been getting it injected regularly with her ortho's blessing, instead.) Has anyone worn protective gel kneepads or similar on Tron, or is there any reason why this might present a problem?

I know there is a seat in the back, but when I floated that idea, she told me, "No, way, we have to be in the front or it isn't worth riding." 🤣

Unfortunately, that is also her attitude about Space "The Bruiser" Mountain, which I avoid if I can.

Thanks!

I think knee pads would work just fine.
My 84yo mom just had her knee replaced 2 1/2 months ago and she has a new lease on life and is rarely in pain now.

Your mom is amazing!! Have fun!

My advice is a bit off-topic but related. On tron you have to lift one leg to get on, I have a bad leg, for me it important that I am not trying to lift that leg to ride, so it means I need to get on from a correct aisle (A or B) (which is impacted by which side of the ride I load on). Your mum may find that her knee means she needs to be in a particular aisle to be able to lift her leg over and/or to be fully supported on the standing leg while she is lifting her leg over. I have no problem once on the ride, no knee issues - just getting on and off. I can’t see knee pads being an issue unless they are very wide.

I am torn, she has had so many knee surgeries (she is a previous tennis player/marathon runner) and knows the PT involved, but I would not be averse. Maybe will probe the issue ;). In the meantime, kneepads ftw!!

She has been on it before - no issues or pain getting on or off, it was something during the ride itself. She said she appreciated it but was sad she couldn’t enjoy it. I hope kneepads work (mom is tiny so it should be fine), but I guess we’ll see! Thank you:).

I have never been on TRON but would like to go next time we are at WDW.......I knew that you ride on a "motorcycle" but do you actually put pressure on your knees??? I kind of assumed it was like the Animal Kingdom/Avatar kneeling ride. I can ride the DAK ride but I can't kneel directly on my knees, if that makes sense....

Sometimes you need to listen to your body- even when you don't want to. It can be hard to accept. It's just a ride, let it go. Your mom sounds like a strong person and there are so many other things to do. It is so special that you and your mom are still able to do these things together! Have a wonderful trip.

They're pretty similar, Tron has a bar that locks your legs into place once you get on and yeah it can put some pressure on your knees. They have test bikes out front you can use to see how it'll feel for you.
