Trader Sam's recommendations

I have my first stay at the Disneyland Hotel at the end of Feb and I'm excited to go to Trader Sam's for the first time. Any recommendations or must-haves? Do they have a selection of collectible tiki mugs or is there just one at a time? My drink tastes fall anywhere between gin/tonic and fruity/sweet. What's your favorite?

The availability varies, but last I read on 1/21 all their mugs were in stock. You can see the menu and look over the variety. The Piranha Pool and Tangaroa Cooler might fit your profile. I like the Krakatoa Punch, HippopotoMai-Tai, Shrunken Zombie Head and the Uh Oa! The Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum is pretty good too, and saying it is half the fun. Most drinks have their own associated mug. If you toss "trader sam's enchanted tiki bar mugs" you will be able to see many of them. I think the Piranha Pool is still available in Gold and Green.

The piranha pool is my favorite drink and I have the mug I got from it last year. I also will get the drink without the mug too. @TikiTroll and I also have the hippopatamaitai mug and the shrunken zombie head. The mai tai was also pretty tasty too.

I belong to a Facebook group that keeps a standing list of what’s in stock at Enchanted Tiki Bar, and everything is currently in stock including the Hatbox Ghost 2nd Edition mug.

Everything at Trader Sams is good, depending on your booze preference!

This past summer I visited 4 times Was able to take my 21yo son one night just the two of us, had an absolute blast sharing an Uh-Oa! Though in reality it was mostly his, but he was very excited to get the Mug/Bowl. ETB will let you go off menu, so don't hesitate to talk with the Skippers (bartenders) as many have some outstanding skills and can make good recommendations on different drinks both on & off menu. I've been to a dozen different Tiki Bars, and either Trader Sam's is still at the top of my list.

IMHO the Piranah Pool is one of the best drinks to be served in a glass and not the mug, the layers are pretty amazing to see. They will still sell the mug too.

Yeah I think you and I are in the same FB group I went to check one one posts to see if everything was in stock still. Find it rather funny the HBG is still in stock, definatly wasn't as popular as in the past. I didn't care for the glazing this year myself.

Count down 14 days until we get to WDW and probably 15 before I get to Trader Sam's! =

I totally agree about the piranha pool being better out of the mug. The first time I tried it was in a regular glass and I was hooked.

I recall at one point someone said that certain drink orders will cause “things” to happen inside Trader Sams. A volcano was mentioned. Is this true and if so, what are some of the magic drink orders?

Thank you!! ETB = Enchanted Tiki Bear, but what is GG? (My brain keeps saying Ghost Galaxy but that seems unlikely, lol.) I’ll check out the drinks that you mentioned to see what we might be interested in!

Sorry, you are correct on ETB (Disneyland) GG = Grog Grotto (Disney World)

They apparently have the baby Yoda drink, but you have to order it as "The Child" or "The Bounty"

We got Sea Monster's Embrace (a drink for 2) it is yummy and the drink and Kraken bowl/cup is exclusive to Disneyland version thus far (Came out Feb 2019).I had to buy the bowl/tiki mug.

Does anyone know if you get an AP discount on the tiki mug? I doubt you do on drinks themselves. If so does it get rung up separately to get tiki mug discount?

My favorite is the HippopotoMai-Tai, but the bartenders are awesome and you can ask them for a specific thing and they will make it. Have fun!

I had to think about that for a moment. lol. Then I recalled it is called Grog's Grotto at WDW.

Regarding drink preference, when I was there last I asked if it was possible to get a drink in a mug that's different from it's usual. They said it is, as long as you pay the price difference associated with the mug if it usually costs more. So if you see a mug you love but don't want the drink, you could always ask if they could put something else in it!

I know that ETB has sold mugs separately in the past, but I don’t know if they still do. It may depend on the skipper...

Unless something has changed since Nov. there is not anything special happening for the Zombie drink at ETB. As far as AP discounts nothing on alcohol but yes on food . It's rare that they sell mugs separately at the bar anymore but when they do you can get a AP discount. The mugs are great and I have many but they have been going up in price the last couple of years so be prepared for a little sticker shock !!
