Despite the number of times I've visited WDW, I've only ever really left the property back in 1991, when I was 12. On this trip, we are renting a car for one day (using Turo - I'll let y'all know how that goes) and we're heading to Cocoa Beach for the day. I'm on the SunPass website to try and calculate our tolls, but I have no idea exactly the names of where we'll be started, the best route, etc. We'll use Google Maps to navigate.

Can anyone walk me through the toll process from just southwest of Orlando to Cocoa Beach? I was thinking I would bring cash/change to pay all tolls and I'm wondering about how much to bring and if that is possible.

between WDW and Cocoa Beach all the 'main line' toll plazas have cash lanes (and most have exact change cash lanes too)

NOT all exits do however so don't get off except at your end points!

HOW MUCH it will cost depends on the route you take 417 to 528 or 528 all the way ... either way the total is under $10 each way. Two rolls of quarters would MORE than cover you.

Hints:

If you are flying in to MCO you can get a 'visitor toll pass': https://visitortollpass.com/

If you want to pay cash there will often be a backup at the attended/change lanes BUT SELDOM a backup at the exact change lane (quarters)

BE CAREFUL about the cash lanes ... to folks unfamiliar they look like EXITS

IMPORTANT P.S.

You are using TURO?

I'm not familiar with TURO myself but did a lil browsing about it and found many discussions about TURO and electronic toll payment ....... You will want to know what's up with the car you get .... it MAY already have a Florida transponder and you may be charged for the electronic tolls (after the fact) even if you pay the tolls yourself in cash.

EXAMPLE TURO LISTING ... found this for a BMW offered via TURO in Orlando area:

"The vehicle is equipped with a SunPass toll pass for your convenience. Tolls will be automatically paid through my account. I do not recommend that you use your own toll pass and/or paying cash because the car will be double charged. You are responsible for tolls found during your reservation. We will later ask for reimbursement, via TURO, after tolls have cleared at the end of your trip. "

Yes, we are using Turo. Perhaps I'll message my host and see what's up. Thanks again!

I just messaged our host. He does have a SunPass and we can reimburse him via Turo after our trip. So easy! Here's to hoping Turo works as advertised.

SunPass makes it easy. Some signs will say SunPass and some will say EZPass, depending on whether the Turnpike Authority or Expressway Authority is in charge of the road, but you can use the SunPass for both. Most of the toll roads headed to Cocoa Beach are EZPass. Just follow the signs for Prepaid Tolls and you will be fine.
