Okay all you Disney fanatics :chat: , I need some help with what snacks to pack for my 2 toddler girls that will hold up in August heat :beach: . I think just about all of the snacks I usually pack will melt in the heat except cheerios and pretzels, and maybe dried fruit....Any suggestions??

This is pretty obvious but I stay away from M&M's. I went to the zoo in the heat of July. DD then 3 stuck one up her nose without us seeing it. Well, it melted. Took us few to figure what the gross brown stuff was dripping from nose! Yuk.

Seriously though, what about trail mix with teddy grahams, goldfish, raisins or craisins, and nuts. (my recipe calls for M&M's but I leave them out in the summer.)

Okay that could be ugly! Too funny! Thankful we are not yet started sticking stuff up our noses, but I am sure it will soon happen :rotfl:

We are not candy eaters, only as a special treat does the almost 3yo get candy, but that trail mix is a good idea. We often have fruit and cheese as our snacks, they even like the small marshmellow, but I am thinking those would not hold up well

We have gone in Sept for the last few years... We are snack happy kind of group..

We went with the individual (100 cal) packs of oreos, choc chips, cheezits, and the zip lock bags of a mix of fish crackers, pretzel stix.... Everything was packed inside my luggage...

Fruit snacks and granola bars hold up nicely in the heat.

We also got one of the really small (from target or walmart) coolers it holds 4 bottles of water... It is the mini back pack style and clips right onto the back of the stroller, I kept a bag of grapes and other things like water and a juice box with just a ziplock bag of ice.... Not too heavy for carry on the bus....

And that carried us through the day.. we also kept the brownies and choc chip cookies from lunch in there and has a late afternoon snack....

Have fun!

Here are some ideas: Cheddar bunnies, graham crackers, blueberry bagels, 100 calorie pack chips or cookies (for a treat),

I also like the tiny dumdum lollipops for a meltdown avoidance or quick sweet treat.

Okay that surprises me, I thought they would not. I figured they would get all mushy...so I will add them back on to my list!

Did you leave the cooler on the stroller will you were at an attraction or carry it with you?

Blueberry bagels is a greta idea, :thanks:
Even though the girls are not big sweet eater (I love candy so I will have to pack them something I do not like to avoid eating all of their snacks LOL), a sweet treat to AVOID a meltdown is probably  a VERY GOOD IDEA

Gerber has these new "yogurt puff" things. They come in berry, peach, and strawberry. They are almost like little meringue puffs - a little bigger than chocolate chips. They are a little pricey, but they are great for snacks! Target carries them in the section with the other baby food.

Maybe whole grain goldfish, annie's organic bunny grahams (like teddy grahams but healthier), those veggie stick things that taste like potato chips but have spinach and stuff in 'em...although those are salty and in August salt might just increase thirst. In the parks they sell fresh grapes and bananas, which if you are on the dining plan can count as a snack.

Well, that's all that comes to mind for now. Good luck!!

we like veggie booty, veggie chips, also ... I can't think of the name but they are like teddiegrahams but found in the organic section of the grocery store. Personally I find granola bars get melty in the hot sun and the fruit snacks get tacky, but if you keep them in a cooler bag you should be okay. Bagel chips work well. We do organic but you can find alot of things that are dry that you can bring. Have fun.

I've packed goldfish crackers, raisins, cheerios, and fruit snacks. DD likes the Disney themed fruit snacks so we pack the Princess and Nemo ones.

Don't underestimate the excitement that a new kind of cereal could generate. Ones that have been well-recieved by my snacksters are Gorilla Munch, Panda Puffs, Triple Berry Kix, Golden Grahams - you get the idea.

Teddy Grahams and goldfish. I carry a small collapsible cooler into the parks, too for juice boxes and any snacks that might get yucky when they get warm. I fill a ziplock bag with ice at the resort in the morning and the stuff stays cool all day.

I saw someone asked about leaving the cooler in the stroller while on rides...we did this every day we were in Disney with no problems at all. I know it is a scary thing, but it is not realistic to carry it on the rides. And if someone does swipe it...just make sure there is nothing worth any value! ;)

We went during a cooler climate...but we packed peanut butter sandwiches that were quartered, water and juice, cheese, peanut butter crackers, gatorade...just about anything we could grab at the condo. We carried the soft-sided 6 pack cooler, so there was a little more room. Another thought...our first day at Magic Kingdom we picked up popcorn in a plastic container - we repacked it each day with microwave popcorn! popcorn::

Again more great ideas!! Thanks everyone!

I am going to stop at Walmart tomorrow and see about a small cooler, the stroller we are taking does not really have a basket underneath so maybe I will find something we can just attach to the stroller itself!

I just posted this on the budget board, but we freeze the small drinkable yogurts (danimals) and they make for a perfect mid morning snack. Add a piece of fruit and its pretty nutritious too. They come in 3.1 oz so you can use them on the plane.....at least we did. Maybe more strict airports would hassle you over the extra .1, but weve never had a problem.

Oh! GREAT idea! We drink lifeway kefir at home, but the 3oz drinkable yogurts will be perfect for WDW and at the Villa! :thumbsup2
Thanks!

DO your girsl eat the puff snacks from Gerber? They hold up pretty well in the heat (we go every year in AUgust since DS was 11 mos old). Fruit snacks and granola bars always are good choices too!:thumbsup2

Yes we leave the cooler on the stroller, we have a Maclearan(sp?) and it fits in the tiny basket underneath. This helps when he hops out I don't worry about the stroller tipping over... If we are using the disney stroller I just leave it on top or inside next to my little guy... I only carry it when I need too..(too hot and way too lazy) :)

The fruit snacks (my guy only eats the Nemo Kellogs kind) and bars I put into either the middle of the little back that we use as a diaper bag(holds a pull up, wipes and the camera) or in the little pouch inside the cooler.

Each year I find new ways to do things and love all the ideas I have gotten from the board over the years!

we used hydration backpacks instead of carrying around drinks and a diaper/snack bag. we filled them with mostly ice and water before we left the hotel. we brought pb&j sandwiches with us every day (i had a dinosaur cutter-- they did get smooshed, but no one minded because they were dinosaur shapes and they tasted the same). we also brought carrots and fruit leathers. all the food stayed fine in the heat because the backpack was basically like a cooler. (we didn't bring anything really perishable, and we went back to the hotel for naps, so the items were only out for a few hours at a time) in the outside pouch we had nuts, seeds, goldfish, etc in those little round containers that you can slide the top to have an opening. they were great to hand to the kids while they were riding in the strollers.
