How do you tip when staying as a member at different size accommodations?
By day? By size? One tip when you leave?

I leave a room tip when I leave - I’m usually traveling solo for about 4 days at a time (split stay) and don’t really mess up the room much and make sure to leave all my used towels in a stack, etc. so I usually leave $10. - If I’m in a larger unit or traveling with my Grands - I’ll leave much more…

I'd rather pay a set "cleaning" fee than have to figure out what to tip. Or, here's an idea, just include it in the amount of dues that we pay so that it is covered that way and people do not have to figure it out.

Virgin Voyages has figured this out on the Cruise side and it is so refreshing...

Thanks TCRAIG. Technically, the people who service our rooms are our own employees, and can change from day to day, and don’t give full service every day, etc., so I don’t know if the tip situation is the same as a regular hotel. SugarMag - I appreciate your honesty.

I know most tipping guides recommend tipping housekeeping daily but as others have noted, we don't get daily housekeeping other than trash pick up, so it's really not feasible. We just leave a tip at the end of our stay.

Right - DVC rooms aren’t serviced each day - and since my stays are @4 days, they’re actually only cleaned at checkout - which is why I tip at checkout.
I also always collect and consolidate my trash daily to save Mousekeeping from having to go room to room every day. I figure any time I can save staff is a savings for me on my dues…

We just got back after a week stay - our studio was serviced once and was left in pretty pristine condition. I left $20 - but admittedly had no idea what typical looks like so I appreciate you asking this question.

For bell service, I do $5 per item, usually just a couple suitcases and owner’s locker (while at WDW). For housekeeping, as mentioned above, since we don’t get daily cleaning, I tip at the end of stay. Minimum $20 if couple of nights; $5 per day for studio, $10 per day for 1-bedroom. If I ask for additional items to be delivered, I tip the CM when they show up, from $5 to $20 (this was when I asked for new bed linen and she came up and redid my bed).

We usually do a week long stay or close to it, 1 or 2 bedroom. IF we remember on the 4th day, we might leave 5-10, but we often forget they're coming. On checkout, we usually leave $20 - $30. IDK what we'd leave on a studio. I"ll ask DH what he does when he comes back from his Feb trip.
I usually do not leave or offer tips to the daily trash pick up folks.
I do tip a few bucks if they bring something we've requested. But we keep to ourselves most of the time, and rarely ask.
I know that's not a tipped position, but we tip housekeeping every hotel stay. Probably stems from my SIL being a hotel housekeeper for several years.

I confess the first time I heard about room tipping is here on the Disboards, just not something people I knew did.

I would tip directly for a special service, like a room service waiter, bellhop. But to me the service of renting a hotel room includes the cleaning.

I understood how the cruise hosts were different and I understood tipping was expected and the few times we cruised I always tipped above the recommended.

I tip on the "clean" days. For a given unit size, I will tip $X for a full clean, and usually about half that on the trash-and-tidy day if there is one for my stay. I tend to tip a little more heavily at WDW than I do in The Real World.

I am from NY so we tip😂
I always leave it on the last day and the amount depends on the size of the room, how many people were in it, what it looks like when I leave and time of year. Our most recent trip, just before Christmas, we were in a Grand Villa. We had generated lots of trash on checkout day, plus it was the holidays so I left her $100. (Yes “her”, she was waiting outside our room as we left).
