The Widow & the Spinster Take a Bougie WBTA Cruise That Didn't Suck! - Lookout Cay, a One and Done 3/31

We have Castaway Cay, Ponta Delgada, Lisbon and Cadiz. Cruise ends in Barcelona. So, two ports are the same as yours.

Well Castaway is the superior of the two beach locations. We really enjoyed our food tour in Ponta Delgada, but I would not suggest the Lisbon tour for you and Michael since he is not a fan of seafood.

We will be at WDW for a week before the cruise, so starting out with the relaxing sea days sounds perfect for me.

Yeah, I can see how that would be a good way to start it.

The time change… ugh!! But then Michael and I both hate the flight back to Europe overnight with losing the 6 hours, it must be more pleasant to do it one hour per night!!

Well, I can tell you that switching times every day really messed with our internal clocks. Not sure how it would be going the other way. Michael doesn't like getting up in the morning as it is!

Great start to the trip! So glad you could meet up with Jo for a good chat! I miss Paula’s posts here. She always had such a sunshine attitude about everything!

Yes! She was so sweet, and no matter how bleak things were, she always had a good joke. Jo says that her spirit is still around the house and even pulls off mischief now and again. Especially in the third floor attic where she was never able to go in life due to her mobility issues.

I think your bangers and mash look very nice and there is nothing wrong with making standard meals a bit more appealing. I guess the Brits were just teasing you!

I think they were just outright mean. The admins on the FB group were quite rude and nasty to folks who did not hold their opinions in high esteem.

ESWB was our third member of the travelling party. 🤣

But never got to go onshore! But always to the spa!

Oooh, your plane had an actual 1st Class section....Mine was just biz and economy.

It was a big a$$ plane!

I take it as my civic duty to help you catch up on popular culture!

That's the least of our worries now, but a nice diversion from the helplessness.

So glad you got to meet up with Jo and her partner! We missed meeting up last year so hopefully can in the future!

They did extend and invite to stay in the guest room on the third floor. Where Paula can mess with us.

I mean, that's really posh and not what real Brits would eat.....or so you were told! 🤣🤣:rolleyes1

Nasty, rude admins. 😠

You had a much shorter travel day than you did last year!

That's for sure!

Oh? Why so?

It's been years since i got off a ship there, but as I remember the standard of living there is so low for so many people that they are begging in the streets.

If they see that you have long hair they're calling out, "Hey lady! I braid your hair for you!" I remember others chasing us down the street waving trinkets and such.

Now all these memories are before having been to Egypt, and it may not be as bad as I remember it, but I feel no need to go back.

Oh I’m sure it took a lot of arm twisting.

Well and especially at the price! What we paid for this cruise, now barely gets you a week on the Treasure! DCL has gone insane with their pricing!

Ok, I was putting a 😍 on the post after I read your first comment. But the second reply warrants a 😱. That’s horrible. But I have never found a Facebook group moderator who I liked very much… There often is some sort of attitude.

That is on my bucket list, can't wait!

And the best part is that it is constantly evolving. They bring in new sets, and now they are doing seasonal overlays. I will point that out when I get to that section (coming sooner than you might think). I went with three people who had already been there, and all of them saw new things they hadn't seen before.

Also, thank you a million times over for all the food pics, I just LOVE seeing them and living vicariously through your travels.

Oh there will be plenty of food pics! Especially ince we get to the cruise. I felt like that was all we did that was picture worthy, but we did plenty more.

Ohhhh
If they see that you have long hair they're calling out, "Hey lady! I braid your hair for you!"
Which is fine… if you want your hair braided.

Then again… no, don’t get me started.
DCL has gone insane with their pricing!
Seems so common these days.

Yay!! I've arrived! So excited to follow along on the adventure.

I'm quite jealous that my parents didn't treat us to Business Class flights on British Airways when we went to London in 2000. We sat together in a row of 4 the entire way...it was the exact opposite of pleasant!!!

day, not weeks ;)

Well just because I had my clothes picked out months in advance, they were still hanging in my closet until the day before. ;)

Although I've seen the movies and read the books, I would be doing this also!

I was glad that i had refamiliarized myself with them. So many aspects that I had forgotten and they had so many props and sets.

Better to be waiting at the airport through security, then at home!

Especially when there is free wine!

Such a well travelled (and generally "iced") water bottle!

It didn't go to Egypt though!

Mmm butter chicken! it is a regular in our house, although I cheat and buy the jars of sauce from costco

I didn't realize that they had jars of sauce at Costco. Then again i wouldn't be able to use it all up before it goes bad.

Wowzas! Fancy indeed!

::yes::

Nice little selection there :thumbsup2

I was actually not as pleased with it. :sad2:

:scansbraintothinkifI'veeverofferedeither:

Well chickpeas are also known as Garbanzo beans, but surely you've heard of almonds.

That looks tasty, I do enjoy a broccoli soup, especially when it has cheddar as well!

This had no cheddar, but it was still good.

Super cool! I wonder if I will ever experience a fancy seat lol

Get a credit card that earns transferable miles and you can!

Wowzas! that's big, how nice for a long flight!

I used both the restrooms in the business class section and they were both super spacious, but I was definitely impressed with the accessible one.

I bet I know what you are going to have...
Yup I did know!

You've breakfasted with me enough! :thumbsup2

Tea bag coffee! Crazy! I'd have thought they'd have a carafe or coffee maker of some sort?

I know! I actually expected better from British Airways!

I'm trying to think, I don't think I've had this experience before, glad you found hi,

The only other time I've had it was in Jordan and Egypt.

Yikes, hope it was a set fare!

Yes, I filled out a quote on their website and they emailed me back with the fare. It was like $125US or something close to that. Well worth it to not have to deal with the tube with all my luggage when I was tired and everything.

Nice clear day at least!

We actually lucked out with the weather in London, on the whole trip, for the most part, just there was one bad day....but that's coming up!

That looks super delish!

It was! I ate more than half of it! I was starving!

this looks great as well, I do like the British chips- I think we call them "steak" fries

I had already planned for Fish and Chips on Friday night so that's why I went with the Bangers on Wednesday. I saw a show on TV when I was waiting for Jill and all these Brits were arguing if fat fries or skinny fries were proper to be served as chips with fish. It was hilarious!

Sounds like Canada prices!

That's what I felt like! The Pound was about what the Canadian Dollar is to the US dollar.

I can't wait to see what you two were up to. I've loved all your pics on FB.

:welcome:

I can't believe we only saw each other on the first and last days of the cruise!

I broke my rule of never flying in the day of the cruise and boy did it catch up with us. We slept 16 hours straight the first night.

Well at least you slept through the first night! That's better than either Jill or I did for about a week!

That’s good. Being packed the day after isn’t as efficient.
Or packing all night when you have a 6AM flight.... :rolleyes1
Oh dear. :(
How old (roughly) is he?

He's just a few years short of reaching octogenarian.

That worked out then.
Yes, when he forgot to pick me up when I visited you, I started building in a buffer.
There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
Absolutely!
Cool!
I’ve done two, but never three.
It was a first for me!
Ooooohhh.
Would like to see in person.
It was definitely a big plane!
Why do you think that is?

Well, Fran was very set in her likes and dislikes. Perhaps in the beginning we followed some of the fads and hit movies, etc. But as she got more and more sick and needed more and more care, I stopped paying attention to a lot of stuff except maybe Disney movies. She would pick all the (theater) shows that we saw and we pretty much just stuck to Disney stuff. She didn't like movies with sad endings. She didn't like Rom-Coms cause of the whole straight factor. So we just skipped a lot of movies and things that most of the world saw.

We didn't get into Marvel until it was well established and it was a whole process just to catch up once we decided to get into it. So especially teenage movies were not something she wanted to watch, and especially something called "Mean Girls". So that's another one I totally missed out on. Not sure why we never got into the X-Men. I think she would have actually liked that series.

Oh geez. I forgot about that one. Need to watch. Not sure if it’s available on any of my services though.

Well they showed it on the ship....is it on Disney+?

Interesting. I’d pick out the almonds and skip the cashews.

I don't like almonds. I pick them out of my trail mix too.

Did not know that.

Well, I think I am. I ate it once and felt like my skin was itching on the inside, so I avoid it.

Sounds divine. And I’ll probably never know!

Well probably not if you keep putting all your miles into the WestJet credit card.

Whoa. Usually they’re barely large enough to turn around.

I know! Right? :confused3

Makes more sense. Anyone can go and claim anyone’s bag… but only you can reclaim your own.

Perhaps that's why so many bags in America go missing. People think they can just go claim any bag and make it their own.

I stopped fretting ever since I bought an AirTag.

We used to do that with Tile, but they ran out of charge. Besides I mostly fly Southwest and they have a nifty scanning thing where you can basically see where your bags are at any step of the process. They scan them before tossing them on the conveyor belt to go on the plane, they scan when they come off.....

Haven’t been in decades, but… not surprised.

Yeah since the city was constructed in Roman times and now they want to drive cars on those streets! There is a crazy tax to bring a vehicle into the inner city.

Perfect. I’d almost certainly have the same.

It was on my plan all along.

…or this. Either one. :)

That was on my plan for Friday night! :thumbsup2

Nice that you were able to discuss and get another, later perspective.

Yes, and she gave me a great explanation for why not to feel guilty for all the fun I'm having as an able bodied person. Because there is nothing that could be done about her not being here. It doesn't change the fact that she is gone physically, so I might as well do what I can. I know it sounds simple, but it's a weird feeling of guilt that she totally understood because Paula was severely disabled as well.

:rolleyes2
Oh brother. What would they have said if you’d had the tacos? That you can’t eat that on that side of the pond? Or North of Texas?

I think they just enjoyed being nasty....so glad that I didn't really make any friends via that group or plan any meet ups with any of them.

I am here also.

:welcome:

Thanks for the Facebook alert. We were booked on this cruise but decided to postpone until next year or the year after. Rob is thinking of retiring and a cruise of such length will be easier when he retires.

Yeah, I get it between this trip and our visit to WDW in April, this ate up just about all her PTO.

Plus, we have decided we want to sail the EBTA so we can acclimate to the time changes easier (hopefully, easier).

I suppose it depends on whether you adjust well to losing an hour every day vs. gaining an hour every day.

Ok, I was putting a 😍 on the post after I read your first comment. But the second reply warrants a 😱. That’s horrible. But I have never found a Facebook group moderator who I liked very much… There often is some sort of attitude.

Yeah often times people who volunteer for those types of positions do it because they have nothing else going on in their lives and they want to feel power over other people.

I tend to try and use those groups simply for information purposes and not socialization or as the gospel truth.

Yay!! I've arrived! So excited to follow along on the adventure.

Yeah Business Class is the only way to go when flying over the Atlantic. I'm making sure to keep my miles up on cards where I can transfer miles to partner airlines so that I can continue to fly business when I travel overseas!
