QOTD: Do you get cold after your run?

I am someone who tolerates cold temperatures very well. I use light jackets in winter, often leaving them opened. I run with a polar fleece hoodie over a long sleeve tech shirt at -12°C and end up soaked. When I stop running and am back inside at home, I often become very cold unless I go straight to the shower to remove the humidity. That happens summer or winter (the house is still at about 21°C). And by cold I mean that my fingers get numb and I might even start shivering. The shower won’t fix the numbness, it comes from inside. It is worst if I eat or drink. I am suspecting low blood pressure after a run. Anybody else have this problem?

I would talk to my Doctor about it, or just send them a note in my chart and ask if they want to see you or for you to see someone else about it, plus get labs done before the appointment.

I do find myself feeling colder these days, but I think there's two reasons for that. 1. It's winter, and while not as cold as you folks up north of me, its still cold at time for me lol. 2. I lost around 55 lbs. since last spring and I just think my old insulation layer is gone and without it, I get cold.... or maybe something is all messed up with me. Who knows, but I am going to have to be about to die to add anymore doctor appointments than I already have.

Pegasus have been my go to for shorter/ faster training runs for years - love them - but I don't like them for any distances greater than 10k. But I run 95% of my <10k runs in them. (except in wet/ winter weather).

I imagine I may need to try out different ones as my mileage increases as I have had issues over 9 miles in the past. However, with a 5 month old, a quick 30 min run is a win so it will be a bit before I head down the long mileage road.

If you like the Pegasus and it fits you well - you could try the Nike Vomero for longer runs - I use those up to any distance on long runs. I find Nike either fits you or it doesn't but the Vomero have been my favourite training show forever.

Nike is retooling the Vomero to take over the role of the Invincible, which is being discontinued. The Vomero is going to be a max cushioned supertrainer to compete with the Superblast, etc. The stack is 46 mm in heel, 36 mm in forefoot (10 mm drop) so if you liked the prior versions, they may be on clearance soon.

QOTD: Lets discuss race expos. As part of the race experience do you enjoy having to go to the expo? Do you often purchase items at them? If the expos you went to had a mail your bib to you option, would you rather that than attend the expo? What do you like or dislike about them?

ATTQOTD: I very much dislike attending race expos, especially my local races where its more or less a glorified packet pickup with sponsors attempting to sale stuff that only half of the products are related to running. At my most recent expo I was looking to buy GU, and there was only one running type store set up and they had some other form of GU that I found out on race day I did not like. Previous years, at this expo it was full of cool stuff for runners. I dislike having to spend additional time going to the expo that is rarely convenient and would 100% of the time take a mail me my bib option while paying for the shipping. I would also like to skip the one at Disney as well. Its a lot of trouble to get there and waiting, plus unwanted time on my feet.

ATTQOTD: The bigger the race, the more I like going to the expo! If it's a big race, there is a lot of positive energy buzzing around that gets me ready for the big day. I don't mind the ones for smaller races, I have to get my race stuff somehow, but I do feel like the gear pickup is part of the experience for me.

ATTQOTD:
I don't really do much in the way of races outside of rundisney, and the ones I *do* participate in are small local races. I don't mind picking up my bib/shirt for those, and they're small enough I can usually pick up in the morning before the race if I don't have time to drive to whatever the location is for bibs.

For rundisney races, the expo is fantastic people-watching time. The lines are annoying, but I also know that if I didn't care about the merch at all that I could time things differently and eliminate most of the waiting time. That being said, when we started rundisney races we kind of set ourselves up for certain things we purchase every year (shoe ornament and pins) so we kind of "have to" deal with the lines. I enjoy the energy and excitement of the expo as well. It's part of the race weekend atmosphere for me.

ATTQOTD: I love runDisney race expos, but I usually go on the second day when it's much less crowded. I take a day off work and either attend with friends in town or by myself. I love browsing the vendors and buying merch I don't really need. :D It reminds me of pop culture convention exhibit hall floors, which I miss desperately!

I haven't done enough smaller local races to have other expo experience. Twice I picked up my bib at a nearby hotel where the race was held, and that was it. For a local half, I had them send me the packet since it was too much of a pain to drive all the way downtown.

ATTQOTD: I think it depends on the race. Or, more accurately, it depends how hard the expo is to get to.

For example, the Rock 'n' Roll DC expo that's usually a mile from my house? Great! Love it. The MCM expo that's for some reason like two hours away in National Harbor? F--- no; I'll give you $30 to NOT have to make that trip. 😂

ATTQOTD: I don't buy stuff, so merch expo holds no appeal to me. The only place I ever bought anything was at Boston Marathon, and that is special......now if I could just find a larger version of the shirt I had from 2011 which just said "Right on Hereford, left on Boylston" then that would be good.

At Disney, it's all about picking up the bib/shirt and getting out of there.

ATTQOTD: I love race expos! I love to see the different vendors and cool things they have to offer. The larger races (ie, world majors) are a little overwhelming--Chicago for example. It's fun but also chaos! I love the larger but not HUGE race expos -- I find that some of the local running shops attend and bring heavily discounted running apparel to them. Two years ago when I ran the Glass City Half in Toledo, OH, there was a running shop there selling ALL my favorite Brooks sports bras for $10 (last season's colors, etc..). You know I had to clean them OUT! 🤣 💸 So for the most part, yes to RACE EXPOS! 👍

ATTQOTD:
Though they are often over crowded and occasionally slightly insane, I really like going to expos. The larger the more fun, but just in a small dose! Similar to shopping at Christmas I love going out in it in theory but after a half hour amongst the shopping crowd I am ready to go!

Also, I really like being with a bunch of runners, community and just feeling the excitement and positivity. For me this is strongest at runDisney or a local trail race.

This! The two expos I'm most familiar with are rD and the Peachtree Road Race. Since I live in Atlanta, I don't need the expo for any shirts, shoes, tape, fuel, etc., plus the time, cost, and PITA of going downtown. The alternative is to have my bib(s) mailed at $15+ per bib, never mind that the mailed envelope is identical to the expo envelope. As nearly as I can tell, the mailing fee can be viewed as a penalty fee for not attending the expo, and/or that the people who want theirs mailed are paying the cost of envelope stuffing for all runners. This is one of the reasons I don't care to do the PTRR any more, that plus the $5+ "processing" fee for taking my money.
The rD expo is OK, but same answer of I'm likely not going to buy anything at it, so I go to the back, get my shirt(s), glance around, and head out to the merch building. Why does the rD expo annoy me less? I guess because I have to be there anyway for the race (like the PTRR out-of-towners) and shirt pickup (the PTRR hands out shirts at the finish), and unlike the PTRR, I do want some merch.
FWIW, the MCM mailed my bib, and I was happy with the idea that if for some reason I couldn't make the expo, then I could still run. But I did go to the expo for a shirt and sweatshirt and then headed out. So I'm a low-value runner where expos are concerned....
YMMV
