Thankful and Thriving-November 2024 WISH

Copying my post from the Gratitude Thread ~

Thankful that my SIL took over hosting at the last minute when MIL was sick. We all brought dishes and pulled it off.

Thankful for a family that plays board games at holidays and has fun with it. (We played "Finish Lines" yesterday - highly recommend.)

And the biggest of all - thankful for a happy announcement made by some family members yesterday... I'm going to be a great-aunt!!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Mine was not great for the waistline, but was great in every other way! All 3 kids were with us for lunch at my mom's and dinner with my in-laws. We had a great day of visiting and chit-chatting!

We still haven't put our tree up, so will either do it tonight or tomorrow to get that done. DH and I both have to work today, so no Black Friday shopping for us. If we don't put the tree up tonight, we might go to a couple local places to knock a few gifts out but we'll just see what the evening brings!

Happy day after Thanksgiving everyone! I hope y’all had a lovely day. Our festivities went from 1p to 8p and I was able to hang for the entire time. We had good food and a lot of games, the most popular was a card game called True or False.

I’m out to breakfast right now, then will stop in town for a bit of Christmas shopping. Weather is dry today, so I’ll be doing some yard clean up at some point. I got more Christmas lights up and am really happy with what I did and i’m contemplating putting up a few more strings to stretch further along the fence.

Busy few days and the next few are shaping up to be busy as well but tis the season right?
I had to work part of the day yesterday then DH and DS12 put the outside lights out. Today is the tree and tomorrow is wreath selling and then a trip to the elementary school holiday craft fair.
I have Monday off so hoping to make a batch of chilly for lunches this month and wrap some presents. Might go to LaSallette as well. I’ll be volunteering at one of the school holiday fairs in the morning then DH and I both have Friday afternoon off so we’ll have to go through to make sure we are in good shape as far as shopping goes and to decide on our menu for Christmas Day. It’s hard to do at night as by the time the kids are asleep we are dozing off too!

I went on Zazzle and created my Christmas cards using some favorite photos from vacation. It took forever, but the cards are ordered and I got a decent discount.

The living room is fully decorated and the outside lights and decorations are done. I made progress with online shopping and got some good deals. DD was up between midnight and 3:00 AM at her boyfriend’s purchasing her Taylor Swift Christmas gifts from me. I will just have to write her a check.

Tomorrow I won’t be going to church because my ribs are very sore from coughing. This cold is lingering.

I think I will wait on the dining room tree until next weekend unless I am feeling a lot better.

SELF CARE SUNDAY
IMG_5121.jpeg
Being alone will be a part of my morning. I love to have alone time.

Planning for difficult family has already begun. My nephew’s wife is a handful and unfortunately he is whipped. He’s my closest relative and she makes things complicated.

Now that I am on the verge of becoming an empty nester, new traditions are bound to happen.

I am taking it slowly tomorrow.

Oh zazzle used to use it for EVERYTHING but they changed their UI and it got very user unfriendly on mobile. Maybe I’ll revisit it next year. Shutterfly had great discounts in October so I ordered our cards then using vaca pics as well 😁

There was NO self care today beyond maybe sleeping until 730? DS 12 and I were signed up to sell scout wreathes after church this morning. It was just us which I was not happy about but was willing to deal after it was confirmed 3 times someone would set up the stand for us by 1030….1025 no stand and no one with a key to the storage shed. Ending up having to drive to someone’s house to retrieve her hide-a-key and set up everything in the cold with a migraine. We sold 10 wreaths and people were happy but the effort was not worth it. Then I took the DSs to a holiday craft fair that was a nice time but 9 did not understand it and did not want to stick around…so that was short lived. Lots of cleaning and laundry this afternoon. And attempts to keep DD out of the fridge…she is getting a belly and eating non-stop so me thinks a growth spurt is in her immediate future. She is only like 2 inches shorter than DS9 now I don’t know how close she’ll be to him after this!

A little late, but it’s time to sign up for December, since it’s indeed December.

Back to reality this morning... sure did enjoy the long holiday weekend.

Saturday morning I drove to my soon-to-be new town and shopped the main street. It was absolute perfection... there were enough people around for good energy but not so many as to be overwhelming, and everyone working in the shops was happy and so nice. Sunday I started off watching the football game then met up with my Niece and went to the local nursery to make our wreaths. Outside is now decorated, except that I might add a string or two of more lights along the fence.

Friday I made another pumpkin pie, because I felt the ones I made for Thanksgiving were kind of meh. I ended up burning the crust by setting the pie pan on a burner I had inadvertently left on, so I scooped out the filling out then set the pie pan and burnt crust outside to cool off. I forgot to bring it back in and Saturday morning the crust was gone and the pie pan was licked clean... birds, squirrels or rats would have left crumbs, so I have to think the coyotes ate it, which means they were literally at the back door. Kind of freaks me out but also I want to see them so badly!
