Hello Out There From Disney Land,
My apologies for not having written in so long, but I've had a very busy time lately, what with like I said last time preparing for my Mom's surgery in Savannah, Georgia (which went very well, by the way, and she's recovering GREATLY) in January and celebrating her 71st Birthday 2 weeks among other things as well as preparing for my parents to leave my Georgia hometown and turn my house into a Bachelor pad next week after St. Paddy's Day on Monday--but that's another Discussion for another time.
That being said, I'd like to discuss one of my all-time favorite shows I remember watching growing up in Boyland which yours truly remembers watching on Disney Channel as a 7-year-old Boy every chance I got (at my current age of 40 as of last December, just before Christmas, I'm REALLY showing my age, LOL!!!)
Its name: "Teen Win, Lose or Draw," a Disney Channel Original Game Show airing originally from April 29, 1989 - September 26, 1992.
For those of you unfamiliar with the show, here's the Inside Information from an Avid Viewer from the show--some of which I've learned in relative recent years through thorough research: Created by Jay Wolpert, "Teen Win, Lose or Draw" originally aired on Disney Channel from April 29, 1989 - September 26, 1992, with 65 half-hour episodes Videotaped throughout its run in 2 seasons in 1989 and 1990, respectively, at The Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Hosted by Marc Price (fresh from his role as Skippy on TV's "Family Ties"), "Teen Win, Lose or Draw" had 2 teams (each composed of a Teen Celebrity Guest and 2 Teen Contestants per show) competing in a Boys vs. Girls game where the Object was to get their teammates to say Words, Names & Phrases by Drawing, with the team with the most points at each game's end winning a Prize Package e.g. a trip to Palm Springs, California, while the Runners-Up won a Cheaper Prize Package e.g. Nintendo NES Video Games from Acclaim Entertainment.
Each game started with a Clue Puzzle Round, where the teams had to guess a series of clues (up to 10) leading up to a famous subject e.g. Walt Disney; this was followed by a Phrase Round, where the teams had 60 or less seconds to Communicate a Phrase, with the option to hand off after 30 seconds, but if they did, the clue was only worth 100 points as opposed to the regular 200 points per Phrase, with a Category e.g. "Disney Movies," with one such Phrase being "The Shaggy Dog."
As with the original grown-up "Win, Lose or Draw" (of which this show spun off from), each game ended with a 90-Second Speed Round to determine the respective Prize Package winners; if there was time on occasion at the end of taping, an Audience Member would play an Audience Round for the team of their Choice and $25 Disney Dollars (later a copy of "Win, Lose or Draw Junior" by The Milton Bradley Company in the 2nd season).
During the first season of 39 episodes (which aired new episodes twice weekly on weekends, as verified via archived Disney Channel Promos via YouTube), a trio of Disney Channel Mouseketeers--namely Brandy Brown, Chase Hampton and Tiffini Hale, respectively--pulled double duty as "Teen Win, Lose or Draw" announcers, after which Jay Wolpert, the original creator and showrunner, left the show and was replaced as showrunner by the duo of Scott Stone & David Stanley for the second season of 26 episodes Videotaped at The Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida (which aired new episodes on Friday Afternoons at 4:30 P.M. ET on Disney Channel, as verified via Disney Channel Magazine issues of the era, starting in February 1991), with Mark Walberg (not to be confused with Marky Mark, the rapper turned movie star whose real name is Mark WAHLBERG, but rather Mark Walberg the TV personality who later adapted the middle initial L. after Marky Mark became an actor in the year 2000, thus becoming known professionally as Mark L. Walberg thereafter), who was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 31, 1962 but grew up soon thereafter in his hometown of Florence, South Carolina, eventually relocating to Los Angeles in 1985 to become an actor, working his way up from Dick Clark's Gopher to the current host of "Temptation Island," now airing on Netflix after recently leaving its revival home of USA Network.
For reasons unknown, during the second season of "Teen Win, Lose or Draw," Marc Price always called Mark L. Walberg "Jeff," and I never understood why. Still don't, to be honest.
Anyhow, in regards to "Teen Win, Lose or Draw," I'm very lucky that since the dawn of YouTube and knockoff site DailyMotion, I've been able to find 16 total episodes of the 65 half-hour episodes Videotaped from both seasons at The Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando--some of which I'll give the links out to you now.
(this one features respective Teen Celebrity Guests Christie Clark, known to Soap Opera fans like my Grandma, who died in 2021 at age 94, as Carrie Brady on TV's "Days of Our Lives," and Adam Jeffries, known for his role as Cleavon Little's character's youngest of 2 teen boys on the short-lived 1990 FOX Network sitcom "True Colors")
(this one features respective Teen Celebrity Guests future and former "Jeopardy!" co-host Mayim Bialik, then known for her role as the junior version of Bette Midler's character CeCe Bloom in the Touchstone Pictures film "Beaches," who'd later star on the Disney sitcom "Blossom," and Danny Ponce, known for his role on the hit '80s sitcom "The Hogan Family")
I've also included a RARE Disney-MGM Brochure courtesy of https://disneyvacationkingdom.blogspot.com/ I found of Page 34 from the 1991 brochure which featured an add for "Teen Win, Lose or Draw" as well as the then-new show "Adventures in Wonderland" and the new season of "The Mickey Mouse Club."
That'll do it for this discussion--until next time, remember, if you want somebody to be YOUR friend, you've got to BE a friend to them. Bye Bye, Everybody!!!
