Tater Tot Casserole Recipe?

I'm sorry if I sounded harsh. I have never tried it, so I don't know if it is gross, but the ingredients do not sound very appetizing. Is that better?

Yes, definitely better! Thank you for clarifying. :thumbsup2

I think I would prefer it deconstructed! Make a meatloaf out of the meat, serve the tots on the side with the veggies, with a nice bowl of cream of whatever soup!:cool1:

THAT sounds good to ME! ::yes::

Ever gone to a pot luck and seen something that looks totally disgusting sitting on the table, everyone navigates around it until someone gets up the nerve to try it and suddenly it's the one recipie everyone has to have? :rotfl:

Well, OK, not Tuna casserole with peas... :scared1:

I like tuna casserole (with peas or without).

Sounds good to me! I'm on partial pregnancy bedrest and this is something the kids can make. I bet they'll love it. Thanks for the recipes!!!

Hey all. Looking for this recipe. Any way it can be (semi) healthy? (maybe something called healthy tater tot casserole is an oxymoron?!! :lmao: ) TIA

It's so easy to make and you could lighten it up fairly easily, I guess.

1 lb ground beef or turkey- browned
1 chopped onion
salt and pepper to taste
1 can cream of something soup (whatever is in the pantry- mushroom, celery, chicken, potato, etc) Use 98% fat free to make it lighter
Enough tator tots to cover the top

Combine browned ground beef, sauteed onion, salt and pepper w/ cream of something soup and pour into casserole dish sprayed with Pam. Top with enough tator tots to cover the beef mixture. Bake at 425 until the tator tots are golden brown. (about 20-30 minutes)

If you aren't concerned about calories and fat- this is great if you add some velvetta to it! ;)

You can doctor it up with garlic, spices, sauces, veggies, etc, but I'm a purist. I like it plain.

Serve it with a big garden salad and some fresh fruit so you can pretend you tried to eat in a more healthy way.

I have several variations of this recipe and hope to try it sometime this summer.. I like Tater Tots and I like all the assorted ingredients, so I think I'll probably like it all together.. Big fan of casseroles here..:thumbsup2

This is one of my kids favorite meals. When I make it, I use extra lean ground turkey, 98% fat free cream of soup, light or fat free sour cream, and very little cheese. My kids love it when I add peas and carrots to the recipe. Nobody can tell that I didn't use ground meat. Very easy and quick to make.

My tator tot casserole has basically the same ingredients but I put green beans in it! Make it healthier by using ground turkey or chicken, 98% fat free soups, veggies and I always put shredded cheddar cheese on top but you could leave that off if you wanted! Oh yeah, my kids 4 & 6 love to make this!!

I wouldn't try this one for along time...And actually found this paticular tator tot casserole on Weight Watchers. :) Trust me the kids love it!

Hamburger
2 cans of manwich sauce
tator tots
FF shredded cheese over the top.

I usually brown the tator tots a little bit before hand. I put the tator tots on the bottom of a 9 x 13. Then I put the hamburger w/ manwich on top of that and top with shredded cheese.
Bake covered for about 30 min. Then stand back. :rotfl2:

This is the first one that sounds appealing to me.

So, I finally made this last night for mt family, and.....YUMMY! :cool1: I think I must have combined a few recipes, and made it like this:
1 lb beef, cooked, drained
mix in 1 can light cream of mshrm
1/2 can green peas
pour into backing dish
top with lowfat shredded cheddar
top with tater tots
cook for about 35 mins at 350

add a tossed salad, and easy, and delicious! I think next time I might try it with the half sour cream, half cream of chicken, omit the peas, and add broccoli or corn. There are so many variations!.........thanks for all the recipes!! :)

The one with the manwich sauce sounds really good. I'll try it and report back:stir:

Tater Tots are IN the House!
Unfortunately I forgot the soup & the kids know the tots are here so they won't last long :rotfl:
I'll have to try it next week when my shopping trip is better prepared.

I haven't made it in a LONG time, but here's our family version of Tater Tot Casserole.

1 lb very lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 can french cut green beans
1 pkg tater tots
dried onions

My mom used to just press the meat into an 8x8 pan (but I have browned it first also). Sprinkle some dried onions on top (or cook with it if you're browning the meat first). Drain the green beans and add on top of meat. Spread cheese soup over the top, then add the tater tots. If you just put the raw meat in, it needs to be cooked at 350 for about an hour to cook the meat through. If you browned it first, then only about 30 minutes at 350.

It's certainly not the healthiest meal, but it is comfort food, and definitely tastes better than it looks.:rotfl2:

Have you ever had the hash brown casserole at Cracker Barrell? It is similar to this TT casserole of which y'all speak. I started buying something called simply potatoes...in the hash brown cut, and then doing the recipe. My evolved recipe has ended up..... one can crm soup, one cup of shredded cheese, one cup sr crm, one WHOLE stick of melted butter. Mix all ingredients and pour all ingredients that are mixed together over the hash brown potatoes, and cook at 350 for about 40 minutes. You need to stir half way through the baking, but this is soooo good. You can put corn flakes on top for crunchiness, but my gang prefers not.:goodvibes

The calorie factor is big I think. That is why I posted a thread about healthy frugal recipes or meals.

I remember that casserole from my childhood. It was okay tasting.

mmmmm

Tater tot caserole....

We always used used cream of chicken or potato soup instead of mushroom(DH can't stand shrooms)

Main thing we do different is to mix in a packet of Lipton Onion soup mix.

We alos do not brown the meat ahead of time. It cooks all by itself while baking... (no really it does)
