I have an old sunpass that I used when I lived in FL a few years ago. We're going next month and are renting a car and I'd love to use the sunpass since I still have $$ on it.

How do you add a rental car to the sunpass since it's a rental car and you don't know the license plate number until you get the car???
Are you able to add a rental car to the sunpass account before you get the rental car? Doesn't it take 24 hrs to update as well???

Any help would be great!!!

Sometimes I add mine, sometimes I don't. I have the site bookmarked on my iphone and usually do it that way after I pick up the car, but you can also call and add the plate number. They are very aware that people use them with rental cars and don't expect that you have the plate number in advance. We love our SunPass!

Good to know thanks! Our flight lands at 6:30 so I could even call or I have a blackberry so I'm sure I could even use that to add the plate number. I just don't want to be knocked with a fine. My friend borrowed another friend's sunpass and got a $100 fine for using it and not having her plate # on file..they fought it and got it erased but I'd really love to not have to deal with that!!

No, that did not happen. There is no fine for using a Sunpass in a vehicle that it is not registered to. When you have a Sunpass in a car and you go through a toll, it debits the Sunpass account by the amount of the toll. It doesn't look to see what car you're operating. The only time the issue comes up is if someone goes through a toll and the Sunpass is not operating correctly. Then a photo is snapped and a person could get a fine for running a toll without paying. As long as your Sunpass battery is fresh and you have funds in the account, you should have no problems. Call Sunpass with your rental car information at your earliest opportunity but don't worry if you can't reach them immediately or until the next day.

great thanks so much!! We're not sure if my brother is coming and if he's going to drive or fly but if he flys, it will be nice to take the sunpass out of his car and put it into the rental car!!

make sure your rental car doesn't already have one.

ours always do.

Every rental company I've ever had required you to sign consent to use the service and pay the daily fee for the service. We always opt out as it's cheaper to use our SunPass.

Ya, I saw that for Dollar it was like $5.99 a day, that's crazy!!! The tolls to and from the airport will be less than $10, can you imagine paying that much for like 6 days and not even using it?!!

Not us. We've never had to sign for consent.

We were always TOLD it was there and what the surcharge for each toll was IF we chose to use it. Of course...we never do.

Actually national's agreement is a part of the reservation agreement online. I noticed it when I made my reservation for my December trip. The newer surpasses don't have batteries in them supposedly. I don't know how that is going to work but we will see.

You can add it as late as at the garage exit booth for Alamo/National. Last time we went I realized I couldn't find my Sunpass in my bag and thought we'd left it at home, so they were going to add their toll thing to my rental, but I found mine at the last minute.

I ordered a sunpass last week so I will have my own when I go hopefully. Thanks for the info on how they do it.
