Stalking DISers.... continue here

They are WONDERFUL!!! Thanks for sharing!!

What time of year did you go? How long did you stay? Where did you stay?

I have to start thinking about this. Dana REALLY wants to go.

Where would you stay if you had your choice? (money no object?)

Thanks for your input! I appreciate it! Need something to get me started - I am overwhelmed by the thought of planning something "foreign"....

Renee,

We stayed on the left bank... in the Parisian quarter of Saint Germain-des-Prés, it was a short walk to the Louvre and Orsay Museums (which was Maggies favorites) and the famous cafés and restaurants like Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots.

We also used the Hop on Hop of Bus... the red ones... it was great for traveling around the city. There was a bus stop not far from our hotel. It runs in a loop around the city to all the tourist attractions. We bought a multi day pass and then just would hop on and ride it to where we wanted to go.

We went to a fashion show one day, did lots of shopping, eating and drinking.... Maggie did most of the ordering... we did want to eat in the Eiffel tower but didn't do it.... a fun thing for us was I took Maggie back to the carasoul that she rode when we were in Paris before - she was 3 the last time we went.... I have photos of her on the same horse!

I did tons of research on the internet. We liked the left bank because it was close to the university (right by our hotel) and it was in walking distance to many of the things we wanted to see....

One night we did take a taxi back from the Eiffel tower to the hotel because we missed the last hop on bus stop... it was a little pricey... so I would be careful of that... I think it was that bottle of wine I had at dinner.... plus the Eiffel tower was really swaying that night.....lol....again...to much wine...

Renee,

Maggie and I went the first week of August... a couple fo thoughts about this.. August is the month that many of the french go on "holiday" so there were some of the cute little stores closed... but that also meant there were less people in the city.

One big surprise to us was the size of the hotel rooms... we had to upgrade when we got there to a superior room.. one reason was so we would both fit and the other was so we could have a private bath. We chose not to stay in one of the chains.. like Hilton, Holiday Inn.... we wanted something more quaint and French... it was very nice... smalll...but the people were great.

The French are not in a hurry,..... meals would take 2 hours... so we didn't plan tons of activities per day... maybe one musuem and shopping each day.

I would DIE without a "private bath". :scared1:
I'm not a great "traveler". ;) The thought of this trip really unnerves me, but I know Dana really wants to see Paris and I'm not sure I'd trust just sending her and Bob - he can't find his way out of a paperbag, I don't know what he'd be like in a foreign country. LOL

Wendy - a hour away isn't too bad and since she will be coming home to work that will be good. I went to college about an hour away from home and came home about every other weekend. Your pictures from Paris are wonderful!! I'll bet that was an amazing trip. I'll know who to contact if we ever go.

Renee - you need to go to Paris...that would be such wonderful memories for your family!!

I don't want to speak too soon but I may be going to WDW for a quick "work" related weekend in Aug...I'll let you know more if it works out where I can go.

Maggie went to orientation the last few days... had her first experience of a college all night party.... has paid the price for it since she has been home...hehehehe.... she looked into the DIsney college program.... I hope it works out for her... that would be so much fun... and ofcourse I would have to go visit her...

Sonya... hope you get that quick trio in... would be fun...

Renee... I am a pretty spoiled traveler as well... NYCity drives me crazy as the rooms are so small... anyone who might have a good suggestion of a hotel that would be great... I want to take my mom to see the Christmas show at Radio city music hall...she has never been... the last time I went to NYC I stayed in a nice holiday inn express about a block from times square... the room was tiny.....

Our favorite hotel is the Marriott Marquis on Broadway and Times Square. That's where we stay at least once a year! LOVE IT! Rooms are nice sized. Of course, our friend upgraded us to a SUITE facing Times Square last time we stayed! That was FABULOUS!!! :woohoo:

I haven't been to NYC but my sister goes there frequently for work and took our Mom last Christmas. They stayed at the Doubletree in Times Square. She likes this particular hotel because of the size of the rooms. They did Radio City, saw Jersey Boys & shopped. They were thinking about a dinner cruise but I don't think they ended up doing that.

The thing I don't like about the Doubletree is that there is no "lobby" and the bar and restaurant are very tiny. We love the "city atmosphere" and hussle and bussle of the Marriott Marquis. :goodvibes

Dana had her last day of horse camp today. On Monday, she got bucked off a horse while jumping - ornery bugger who was taken out of the rotation after he bucked a few more. She got pretty scraped up and was sore, and felt a little leery today jumping in the end of the week demonstration. She had an EXCELLENT instructor that would not let that one fall ruin things. She told Dana that she knew exactly what to do and she wanted to see her do it! She ended up jumping three in a row and was very pleased!
I, however, wish she'd take up basket weaving or knitting, instead. :rotfl:

Wow... I am so glad Dana wasn't hurt.... I am with you on the basket weaving.... hehe... Maggie is off with her boyfriend and his family for the week... they rented a house up in the mountains.... I am thinking of taking Daniel and a few friends for an overnight at Darien Lake... used to be a six flags place.... they will have fun... me I might go crazy..... good thing is my mom is only about 45 mintues away so maybe she could keep me company.... its about 2 hours from us....

We are heading to Atlantic City on Wednesday and then Cape May until the following Monday. :beach: I am getting sad that it is already the end of July. I just ADORE the summer and can't stand to think of school starting, closing the pool, etc.

Renee - I'm glad that Dana wasn't hurt on Monday. It sounds like she did great at camp! You pool looks so relaxing!

Wendy - sounds like fun for the boys. Hopefully your mom was able to keep you company!

Well, I found out that I will be going to WDW in 4 weeks!! We will be flying out on Friday after work and flying back Sunday evening. We are staying at All Star Sports. Hopefully we will get there in time to go to EMH at Epcot on Friday night. Then we are planning to go to MK for RD on Saturday morning then the Studios Saturday evening and then AK for RD on Sunday morning. It will definitley be a quick trip but I'm excited! Paul and the girls will be staying at home so it's going to be really odd not having them there...I wish they could go!

Wow....lucky you... have a wonderful time.... I leave this afternoon for the overnight with the boys at Darien Lake... they are excited to go... I think it will be fun.... I have a great time with them... me at 3 15yr olds... yikes....

Have fun on your trip Renee.... I know what you mean about summer... I can't believe Maggie will be leaving in a few weeks....:sad2:

Have a great day everyone... off to work for a couple of hours before we head to the amusement park!!!

Back from Atlantic City and Cape May - Bob did terribly in the casino - they don't call them "crap tables" for nothing...

:beach: Cape May was gorgeous - my most happy place in the world. :cool1:

Water was frigidly cold for this time of year - 63 degrees - but the beach was lovely and I read three books!
This was my view from the top of my book!

and at the front of Congress Hall - overlooking the ocean..

Dana doesn't go back until the Wednesday after Labor Day. We still have a few more weeks of summer to squeeze in! :cool1:

Bob's mother and sister and her two girls are driving out from Michigan for a long weekend starting Aug 21. oh joy. I'm trying to get my house ready for four additional occupants. I like to entertain, but I'm not huge on "overnights"... it's so much work to have extra people, even if I do have the room. (of course, it DOES depend on the houseguests.) I'm bad. We don't see them often, and there's a REASON for that. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Dana will be 15 on the 19th, and we will have a party for her on the 23rd with my family and extended cousins, so they can visit with Bob's family, too. (gives me something to do with them for one of the days!! lol) I'm praying for good weather, so we can just sit in the backyard and lounge by the pool!

Hope your girls are enjoying their first days of school. How did Amanda do in her new school? :)

Renee- That hotel looks awesome.......You guys did so much this summer. I wish my parents had done that in all my summers, but Dana gets it in one! Lucky girl......and now Paris WHEW! Take her, take her, take her. I was in the military right after high school for 5 years and the one thing I miss was going to Guam, Saipan, and Australia and learning about different cultures and etc. I did kick myself in the butt though. I had moving orders to Italy and after 6 months I turned them down for a boyfriend, needless to say it wasn't rags and I still kick myself in the rear for that one. I am still trying to talk rags into taking me there.......looks like the only Italy I am going to see is at EPCOT in........(drumroll) ......8 days......

Everyone- thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I do love my job and all it's sad moments. I have had babies on ECMO and being so new in the field I still am nervous for the babies and the parents. I had a mom cry on myshoulder the other day because her daughter kept having spells (heart rate less than 100 bpm, oxygenation less than 90%) and I started crying with her. We do get attached to our patients....babies and parents...

On a less sadder note, did I mention DISNEY in 8 DAYS! My clothes are already packed and Rags is giving me grief I packed too much. He doesn' understand why a woman can't just pack 6 outfits and 1 pair of shoes. He's crazy! All I said was at least we aren't bringing a U-HAUL like jon and kate plus 8.......did I mention that is so my fav show?

Hope everyone is doing well. Will post pics of our vaca when we return!
