Hi, all!
I need a paint recommendation. Something I can get at ACE Hardware or Shermin Williams. I've tried way too many samples and they are either too blue, or too tan, or too reddish.

I just want a soft, grey. Just a light grey! Help!

We just painted our bathroom with Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore. It’s quite pale, lighter than I thought it would be.

All of the major brands of paint have online color charts you can review. That is a good place to start. There are usually MANY choices of color that are slightly lighter/darker. It is also a good idea to get a pint of the colors you like best to paint some samples on the wall. Then you can see it in the light you actually have in your home and make a final decision.

We did agreeable gray by sherwin Williams in our bathroom. It matches the color in the rest of our house but we just bought the house so we tried to match the bathroom as best we could. We really like it.

I tried 13 greys before picked my hallway color. You have to try samples in your space. The changing light of the day, shadows and thing nearby with change the grey.

So true. Many grays have an undertone, whether it be beige, green, purple, blue or whatever. It took us a long time to find what we considered what looked like a "true gray" in our space. We settled on Behr Silver Screen.

Agreeable Gray is a popular choice for a basic, neutral, matches everything, offensive-to-no-one paint color. We saw about 782 Agreeable Gray-painted homes while searching for a new house. It’s the new beige.

Yep. Agreeable grey. It is a perfect color.

My bedroom walls at my parents’ home are painted Behr’s Manhattan Mist From Home Depot. It’s a really good neutral with no funky undertones. I just purchased a condo and my friend and I were painting my bedroom and bathroom today. I purchased a Valspar grey (Frisky Whiskers, it’s called 😂) and there is a purple undertone - it looks grey in the bedroom (all natural lighting, no artificial overhead) but looks lilac in the bathroom (all artificial lighting), but I don’t hate it in the slightest. It brightens the bathroom up quite a bit,

I really like Agreeable gray. Our house now is mostly Sherwin Williams Passive. It is a nice gray also.

::yes:: Yep - that's pretty darned neutral all right. Not a hint of blue, yellow or pink that I can see. Did you actually end up buying a house painted Agreeable Grey?

My whole "main area" (entry/living room/halls/etc) of my house is London Fog by Benjamin Moore. I have white trim and a lot of natural light so this is a perfect light grey/greige for us.

We tried a ton of SW grays before finally deciding in Essential Gray for all the main walls and hallways in our new house. We have white doors and white moldings, but the mantle and built-ins we went with SW Dorian Gray for some contrast. I really like how the Essential Gray stays gray with different lighting and different times of day. Our old house we had Behr Pewter Vase so I wanted something just like it.
I'll also add that sometimes paint looks different depending if you get satin, eggshell, flat, etc. I was shocked to learn that.

+1 for agreeable grey! I find it soothing, for a little extra flair we painted one room within our open floor plan dorian gray

I painted my youngest kid's room Behr brand, a really light gray, lighter than I thought we'd like but it looks great. I wish I could remember the color.

One of my friends must've had 20 gray stripes on her wall as she tried to find the perfect shade with samples. I used to tease her it was her 50 shades of gray room 😂 But you really do need to consider lighting changes throughout the day.

And on different walls. I had paint "squares" on the walls of my living room for about 2 weeks trying to find the right color when I painted a few years ago. What looks good on the wall may or may not look good on another.

Yep, sure did! Leftover cans of Agreeable Gray paint in the basement and everything. I couldn’t have cared less about the paint colors — we always intended to repaint no matter what — but it was crazy to see how fast grey houses got snapped up compared to others. We moved twice as fast to schedule showings for grey houses that came onto the market because we knew they would go quick. Grey is my favorite color but I’m pretty over it as a paint color at this point. The Agreeable Gray is slowly being erased from my house.

We have both SW Repose Gray and SW Pussywillow. Pussywillow is darker than Repose Gray. I think they’re both pretty neutral.

I don't have gray (yet) because I did try one in a washroom but didn't care for the gray color. I definitely intend to try again and I will look into Agreeable Gray. I love that it's the new neutral.

My daughter just bought a new home and her Baird & Warner realtor kept telling her that all her very many realtor associates are saying that everyone selling their home is advised to use Sherwin Williams Alpaca. This is being told to all their clients.
