Well, last night was our first pratice of the season. They let the kids decide if they wanted snacks after pratices or games. They chose after pratices.

Well we have to take turns and before my turn comes, I'm trying to find cheap but good snacks for them to have. Can you help me out. What should I bring?

This week at Food Lion I can get Hi C drink packs for .47 each. How many should I bring? We only have 9 kids on the team. Should I figure in 2 each?

TIA!!!!

Ours are after games. What we do is bring one drink and one 'crunchie' per kid. BUT everyone brings extra for younger siblings who are there with Mom or Dad at the games. Drinks are kept cold in coolers. Also, each child brings his own waterbottle or gatoraide bottle for hydration during the game.

OP If you can catch the drinks on sale all the better an plan to donate at least twice I'd plan on 2 of those sized drinks each. If you end up with extras use them for outings during the summer for your own kids just keep them in a small cooler in car an when they ask for drink you covered.

I stock up on bottled water when it's on sale at Aldi's (right now a 24 pack is $3.97, so less than $0.20 each), and put that on ice for the kids. For snacks, if oranges are in season and cheap, cutting oranges into wedges and throwing them in a very large bowl is a great, healthy snack (and the water in them helps keep the kids hydrated too). Another favorite is gorp made with pretzels, raisins, generic cheerios and m&m's (plain ones in case of nut allergies). String cheese isn't too pricey at Trader Joe's or Aldi's, and is a good source of some protein.

Capri Sun puts out a "sports" flavor...berry, lemon lime and orange that have electolites they also have small gatorades. Then a carb or a fruit, goldfish packs, granola bars, sliced oranges (sometimes parents bring "fruit roll ups") or something similar.

Half the time the kids junked the food, they were much more interested in going to the concession stand for bubble gum and a soda. So we quit the snacks after tball, and just let the parents go get them a treat on thier own. However when they were little the snacks were a big hit.

We do soccer and basketball so we do lots of snacks. What I do is buy a box of little Debbie cakes, chips, or similar and capri sun or Hi C juice box per child. Your choice on whether you want to bring extras for siblings but we have had a problem in the past with the siblings trying to take away from the players and I hate when parents send the siblings up and expect them to get something. One season we had almost 10 siblings and there is no way that many of our parents could afford to provide for the team and all the extra siblings.
I would recommend verifying that there are no food allergies with the palyers so you know not to bring something they may be allergic to. I always ask because I do not want to be resonsible for risking a child's health from giving them something they are allergic to.

I usually let DD pick what she wants to get for our snack day. She choose water and single servings of pringles.

Last year was our first year of softball and snacks were after games. Most of the time my DD9 didn't like what was brought-I was actually surprised that parents picked some of the things they did. Sour Cream and Onion Sun Chips, Fiery Cheetos, etc. Or those blue Koolaid things. I know many kids like the more unusual foods but when I did snack I kept it pretty simple. Last year I did small bag of pretzels, fruit by the foot (got them for a great price of $1/box,) and the Honest Kids brand juice from Sam's (drinks with less sugar). First time I did apple juice. Kid's didn't seem to like the a.j. so I switched to the juice pouch the 2nd time. Our girls seemed to really enjoy the fruit by the foot as well as green grapes. Some moms brought popsicles on hot days (kept in ice chests). These were a big hit as well. I know I probably threw away almost half of the snack/drinks brought by other parents. My DD9 isn't a picky eater, she just didn't eat/drink the items brought. Fresh fruit always made her happy.

I just did snack for our first game this year. I was going to make Rice Krispie Treats but we didn't have enough RK. So I bought some of the larger, homemade type choc. chip cookies and Sunny D (DD9 really wanted Sunny D so this time I let her pick :goodvibes ). We have 12 girls on the team. I brought 24 cookies (I put 2 each in a ziploc.) I don't usually bring for the siblings since I never know how many there will be. I actually wish the snack would be eliminated. :confused3 Most of our games are at night. Ending after 7 p.m. Since we have to get to the field by 4:15 we have dinner after the games. I would love it if (next year) the parents could agree to bring their own kids a snack. Or not, if dinner is ready at home. Even our Sat. games occur around lunch time, so if we eat after the game, DD doesn't need a snack. A beverage is fine, but no snack. To me it would make more sense to eat something light before the game.

JMHO

I played softball for 12 years and the parents always took turns supplying the snacks between playoff games. It was usually fruit of some sort and a drink. Cut up watermelon, oranges, apples, bananas, grapes, etc. Sometimes we would get crackers and cheese.

I wish the snacks would just go away all together. The games are usually right before or right after lunch. My kids do not need a snack... a drink sure, but I can bring that. I think it is a waste of money since you can never please everyone and some or most of the snacks will go to waste anyways.

Thanks for all of the replies. Last year was our first year at Tball and our sponser provided all of the snacks and drinks after our pratices and our games. I'll just keep my eyes open for some deals out there.

If you have any other ideas, let me know!!!

I have to agree. Having done baseball for almost 10 years now, it just isn't worth it. Too many issues - too sugary, too healthy, siblings, etc. I think parents should always bring a stocked cooler with drinks, and throw in a few snacks for their own and call it good.

It really concerns me when kids show up without water.

Having gone through 8 years of little league with my DS, 2 years of soccer and 3 years of softball with my DD, I've never heard of having snacks after practice?? Games, yes, but practices? No. Seems a bit over the top.

I'd plan on 1 juice per kid, and one snack. Make Rice Krispie Treats and prebag them.

cut up bananas and apples are less messy that oranges when they are playing sports....those sticky hands are such a mess!

Any frozen fruit (grapes, bananas, oranges) are a hit with my crowd. Icy oranges are the biggest hit!

I don't let my kids eat the snack if it's right around lunch time. I'll let them take it with them though.

When I played soccer and tennis in middle and high school, our fav snacks were the mini gatorades and oranges, bananas, or apples. The oranges always seemed to be the biggest hit.

I am not sure about the age of your child but I know that all the kids that have ever played with my kids (oldest being 16 - started playing sports at4 and ended at 14) loved the snack. That was the best part of the game for the younger ones. If we had a late game on a weeknight my kids would not eat their snack until the next day. The kids were mad if a parent forgot the snack. Shoot, there have been a few seasons where the child was only playing for the snack. They didn't care about the trophy. lol
