Tonight is taco night at the slo house and I’m pretty excited - I haven’t made tacos in a really long time. When I do make tacos I normally have both soft and hard taco shells. My DH is a soft shell guy and I’m mostly a hard shell gal. Today I bought the shells that are flat on the bottom so they are easier to fill. I do have to say that my preference on shell depends on what’s going in the taco - beef is always hard and chicken is always soft. What’s your opinion on taco shells? I’m sure you have one…..

What type of taco shell do you prefer?
Do you always eat your preference or do you mix it up?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..As I mentioned above, my preference is hard shell, but I will eat flour if I’m having chicken tacos. If I’m at a restaurant I will always get hard shell beef tacos. I make chicken tacos at home sometimes, and because it’s more wet than beef, is why I prefer soft shell for those.

Flour soft 100% !!! My favorite is shrimp 🍤 tacos followed by pork or chicken - if I have hamburger I make nachos 100% of the time !

SLO - it’s not taco Wednesday it’s supposed to be taco Tuesday- your a day late 🤣🤣

I prefer the soft corn ones especially the soft corn and flour ones at Trader Joe’s because they bend and stay in one piece! We usually do chicken but when we travel anyplace tropical I prefer the fish ones. I have created my own that we like too. Put a pork loin into the crock pot and sprinkle it with Tajin seasoning then dump a whole jar of Paul Newman’s Own pineapple salsa over it and cook for 5-6 hours. Shred it with forks. Top with shredded cabbage, pico, lime, sour cream and cilantro.

I’ve never tried a shrimp one. What do you top it with?

I LOVE a hardshell taco and the ones that are flat on the bottom do make it much easier to serve the family. I did buy the little wavy serving trays from Marshalls but haven't used them yet.

I like jicma rounds from Trader Joes for days we just want to slash calories.

I like the soft street taco size for shrimp or fish taco which I haven't made in a long while.

I like the bigger ones for chicken enchiladas which I make with Goya salsa verde, this one is on deck to be made any day.

I have been noticing rounds made of all sorts of different things for those with allergy or diet issues. Most recently, I saw them made with egg but I have seen cheese rounds too which work great as a crust for a no carb quiche and casserole type meals, I have been experimenting.

I need to see if my local shop has the jicama ones!

I enjoyed tacos early in my life, but it wasn't something we had while I was growing up. My mom did not make tacos and it just wasn't a part of our diet at all. I do enjoy them every once in a while now, but more a fish taco than the standard. I guess I'd have to go with a soft taco because that seems to be what they use for the fish tacos when I have them.

Coleslaw and whatever kind of sauce you would like - not necessarily taco sauce cause that really kinda doesn’t go think more along the lines of a version of a sweet-and-sour sauce

I guess my preference is flour soft shell. That said, I also love hardshell tacos. If hardshell is an option, sometimes I will choose that :thumbsup2

Sounds good, I’ve got some Margaritaville coconut shrimp I may just make into tacos!

Up until the last few months, only flour. I've started enjoying the soft corn tortillas, though.

I feel like I've just discovered tacos. I am loving some soft shell/sided tacos from our local places. I don't at all like hard shells, and never want them/seek them out. Like Taco Tuesday meant nothing to me. Never really had them growing up either. But I"m loving these soft ones.

In the freezer, is a pack of corn tortillas for me.
On a pantry shelf, is a box of hard shell taco and seasoning awaiting DGD’s return.

I prefer ground beef hard shell tacos (especially at Taco Bell or from our nearby scary buried-in-velveeta-tacos-made-by- Polish-Americans former local chain Tippy's IYKYK - they sell rolaids at the counter).

But I am very flexible, especially with certain protein variations and just trying to please a crowd. At home, I tend to use flour tortillas so the hard-shell haters won't complain. Anyway, grocery store hard shells seem sub par. At restaurants, I tend to get beef in a hard shell, chicken in a flour tortilla and pork or Korean tacos in soft corn tortillas. Anything involving cabbage and cilantro needs that soft corn tortilla as well.

I enjoy almost any taco, but the ones I make at home are usually flour with ground beef. I'm the only one that will eat tacos so I get my preference 100% of the time.:)
