Yesterday, someone I know, told me they are going to start paying for everything in cash. He didn’t tell me why and I didn’t ask. I know a couple other people that use mostly cash too. So it got me wondering about all of you. Cash is King, but how many of us actually use it - give us your monetary answer today…….

Do use cash 💵?
If yes…..how often?
(multiple choice)

For Me…….I don’t use cash very often. I always have cash in my wallet, and try to use it for purchases under $10, but even then I don’t always use it. I really like paying with my Apple Watch - it’s so quick and easy. I also really like my Southwest points, so that’s another reason why I use my credit card - free flights are awesome! When we go out to dinner, which is not often, I do try my best to pay tips with cash.

I never use cash, I always use a CC or debit card. I never really carry cash either. I know it is a good idea to keep some on hand, but I don't follow my own advice on that.

I work a cash job in the winter, so I have a lot of cash. Most of the time I will pay for things with cash rather than try to find time to get to the bank to deposit cash.

I rarely have cash and if I do it’s never on me I keep it at my house for when it snows and maybe I’ll get lucky and some kid will come by and wanna do my driveway or for some thing like that where I need cash at home
I do use my debit card a lot but otherwise I’m using a rewards card so I can get the points it’s either Southwest or DISNEY so I’m either trying to get free airline tickets or I’m trying to get Disney reward points I guess you just split between the two I’m seriously considering putting all my bills on them so I can earn even more rewards
Since my bank closed the branch they had at the local grocery store it’s almost impossible to get to the bank to get cash yes I know you can use an ATM and I know you can get cash back at the grocery store but I rarely go to those either Because I have my stuff delivered

I pay cash for certain items. I always pay cash for my hair and nails. Small businesses who are hit hard by fees, and I am close with both and asked their preference. I also pay cash for gas, any time a card has been breached it’s after getting gas, I always tip in cash. I also pay cash at my favorite local breakfast place. They give a 5% cash discount (their cc fees) and I give the waitress the extra 5% on top of my regular tip.

I only pay cash at places that have a CC "convenience fee" (or a cash discount, whichever way they want to call it). Except gas, I'm way too lazy/antisocial to go up to the cashier & estimate how much filling the tank would cost.

Otherwise I use a credit card, since it is much easier/faster, gets cash back, and paid off every month so there are no interest charges. It's like getting a 1-3% discount on everything.

I have to use cash when I shop at one of our small, local stores. They only take cash. I use a debit card at another local store that charges 3% when you use a credit card. But everywhere else I use a credit card. There are some small exceptions, like when the total is very small. But I like to earn the rewards on my various credit cards.

I use cash for small items, under $10 or $20 (the exception to that is Kindle books) and that is maybe once every 3 months. I use my cc for large purchases since I get cash back. I try to always have about $100 cash in my wallet. Depending on where I'm going, I don't always have my wallet with me since I have a little card wallet on the back of my phone with my DL, cc and Kroger card (if you are from the south you know what that is). The only time I use my debit card is to get cash out of an ATM, otherwise, I don't even have it with me. It is in my wallet, which is in a small crossbody I carry if I need my car fob or wallet since I rarely have clothes with pockets in them.

I'm with you on the convenience fee. Our local tax office charges one if you use your CC to renew your tags. They do take checks still so I write one check a year and that is to them. I don't use cash for that since I have a car and a RV and the RV tags ain't cheap. Hubby thinks it's so funny that I won't pay the $1 fee but will probably spend more than $1 in gas to go to the tag office. It's the principle. I also pay off my cc every month and only have one.

I very rarely pay with cash. There are a few things that only take cash, but I usually have to get it specifically for that. I generally use a credit card for all transations, but pay it off each month.

I mainly use credit cards because I like building the rewards and it's easier to track my spending. I do keep a little cash for either tips or when I need cash for school fundraisers or donations.

I use my debit card mostly, unless it's a larger amount then I use my Southwest card for the points. I do try to keep a couple bucks in my truck and in my wallet ( guilty of having neither at the moment) and we keep cash at the house. It just so happens that I have a nail appt. this afternoon, and if I remember I'll hit the ATM and pay for that with cash as they give a discount and I can only tip my nail gal in cash.

I would say 95%+ in cash. I use a cc if it’s a large purchase or a purchase where I want the protections afforded by the card. But things like groceries, gas, Target run, etc., are all cash. I budget better when I use cash because I can’t spend more than I have.

I assume we are not talking about things like utilities, mortgages, insurance, etc. Those all get paid online, some by cc and some from my bank account.

98% of all my transactions are with debit, that’s very common here in Canada. I even use it on-line for all but the very largest purchases. I almost never have cash unless it’s needed for something specific, which then requires a special trip to the bank to acquire. If I do somehow end up with cash in my wallet I usually forget it’s there. The exception is when we’re travelling - we like to buy meals and incidentals with cash rather than fuss about exchange and foreign currency fees on the credit cards. For security, we never use our debit cards abroad.

I use cash at those restaurants that charge a convenience fee and at “dollar stores.” Our dentist started charging that fee, so next time I will have cash.

I prefer using a credit card.

I use a credit card 99% of the time. On very rare occasions it's more convenient for a small purchase to pull out cash.

It is much easier to pay with a credit card or an app. Many of the cashiers can't make change anyway and it takes much longer.

I use cash sometimes - tipping the housekeepers, tipping black car drivers, farmers markets, Christmas markets, and sometimes for the kids chores (sometimes I just Zelle them cash on their debit cards). I like to have at least $100 in my wallet. My brother and SIL like to always tip cash, I should try to do that more.
