slo’s TUESDAY 4/22 poll - Conclave (the movie)

I have not seen it and I’m not planning on seeing it. There are certain things that I don’t want to have tainted for me by a fictional movie.

This happened for me when I was a young teen and watched The Thornbirds, a fictionalized series on TV (and also a very popular novel.) It showed the political ambitions of some of those who spend their whole lives in pursuit of becoming archbishops, cardinals and aiming for the ultimate goal: Pope. It was one of the factors that changed my views of the Catholic church.

Still, I was planning on watching Conclave and still will when I get a chance.

I really liked the book. I watched the movie and it didn't seem the same. The movie was okay but felt like something was missing.

I watched it on a flight earlier this month.

The ending has a twist that was unexpected.

But otherwise, I thought it was a good movie depicting a very believable inner process of electing a new pope.

And I work at our Catholic Church.

Yes, that is good to know. Other people previously said it was $6. They must have just dropped the price.

I thought the visuals and cinematography were beautiful in the movie but the trailers called it a thriller and it was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. At no point was it thrilling and it’s just a procedural about what they think happens in the Sistine Chapel to elect the pope. No more exciting than watching C-span and the ending was just ugh maybe that was the “thriller” aspect.

As a practicing Catholic I am fascinated by the Conclave process I really enjoyed the movie. I watched it last night and thought it was very interesting. I am closely watching who will be the next pope and definitely see some of the different interests that will be present when conclave meets in the next couple of weeks.

I had been enjoying not hearing the inside scoop for 10 months but may watch it on Prime. My evil witch in law worked for various ones that had were part of 2 conclaves plus one going to this one.
