I have always admired grandfather clocks and wished I had the space to have one. No one in my family has ever had one. In fact…none of my friends have one too. So now I’m wondering about all of you. So give us your timely answer today…..

Do you have a grandfather clock?
If yes…..did you buy it?
If you didn’t buy it…..was it a gift or a past family members?
(multiple choice)

For Me……As I mentioned above, I don’t have one. If I had the space for one, I’d definitely like to have one.

I think they are cool, and I'd like one but, $$$. Growing up, a friend's family had one and I always enjoyed listening to it. I wonder, though, how long it takes to get used to it at night; would it wake me every hour?

Don’t have one and don’t know anyone who does but I think they are so cool ! I have a cuckoo clock and absolutely love it and yes you do get used to the cuckoo at night and don’t even notice it - I’ve had this clock for probably over 35 years

We don't have one and never wanted one. I don't know anyone that has one.
We did have a wall version that my uncle made for a wedding present. DD has it now, but it doesn't work and no one has taken the time to get it fixed.

It looked similar to thisshopping.webp

No grandfather clocks here either. My mom had a cuckoo clock for a while when I was a kid, but I don't remember became of it.

I don’t have a Grandfather clock but would love to have one. We have a local auction house and I see them on their website occasionally but they always sell for more than I’m willing to pay.

No, I do not have one. The only person I know, offhand, that has one is my best friend - he inherited it from his grandfather and I know he's spent a lot of money trying to keep it operational (and it's iffy in working, at best).

I don’t. My grandparents had one in their home when I was growing up, that was passed on to my parents, and has now been passed to my sister. The Westminster chimes are a calming sound that will always remind me of my grandmother.

I have my parents’ grandfather clock in the living room but it hasn’t worked in years. My daughter says she wants it but it’s never the right time for her to arrange to get it.

I checked "No" and "Other." No, I don't have one, and "Other": I will do everything in my power NOT to inherit my parents'.

Just because something is great for one generation (theirs isn't an antique -- they bought it new) doesn't necessarily make the next generation want it or have the space for it.

I do know there are heirlooms and stuff that we want to honor. The clock isn't one of them.

I do not and never will. My mom has one and I hate it. It wakes me up. She now has it on silent for me but used to not and, even though, I was a floor above that dang clock I could still hear it.

Don't own one either and have no interest. I agree they are pricey to maintain and when parents had one it was finicky about changes to temperature/humidity and seemed to recall it needed periodic servicing to keep accurate time. They eventually got tired of it and got rid of it. Theirs had chimes, but no AM/PM setting (not sure if any of them do), so it would chime 24 hrs a day which was annoying. It did have a feature where you could turn off the chimes, but then had to remember to turn it back on each day if you wanted sound.

As I recall it also requires special preparation if you are moving so the mechanism doesn't get damaged and isn't like moving a sofa or table.

Yes! I have my grandfather’s grandfather clock!!!! He built it from a kit. It’s beautiful and has a small engraved plaque on the inside with his name and the year it was made. Love it!

Technically, it's "the right time" twice per day :rolleyes1

Our clock was a gift to DW from her parents when she graduated from high school. When we got married we had that clock in our one bedroom apartment and it's still here and chiming every quarter hour for the past 50+ years. I don't recall ever having to get used to it, it's just always been there.

We don’t have one and I don’t have a real desire to have one. It’s just not my style.

My parents have one of the wall clocks like Meriweather posted but I have no desire to inherit it.

My sister has a grandfather clock. They inherited it from her husband’s grandmother. I believe it works.
