Just checked Walmart online and their brand is $4.53 for a dozen.

That's what they are here (Nebraska) as well. $4.53

We typically get the Eggland's Best brand and they are about a dollar more.

We don't go through eggs very quickly, thankfully.

This thing is national. It isn't localized. I might have missed it but is anybody aware of why this is happening? Is there another bird flu that haven't heard about affecting hens and egg production? Please don't say it's political, because it isn't even slightly logical that is the reason. Have the chickens been striking for better working conditions and more time off or what?

Attempting to put this in prospective though even at $7.00 a dozen that's only $.58 per egg. Two make a pretty good omelet for just $1.16. Hard to find anything that packed with healthy things to eat anywhere. In other words quit whining and just stop buying them and eventually it will all come closely back to normal.
Quit trying to inject facts into a good rant.... :rotfl2::rotfl2:

If I have to pay 58 cents for an egg I won't be able to afford to drop $10k on a Disney trip.

DH paid just over $4 this afternoon for a dozen at Meijer. Hadn't bought any since before Christmas. We don't eat a lot of eggs obviously.

It’s been mentioned by multiple people on this thread that there’s another avian flu affecting egg production

$6.19, Bangor, Maine- Hannaford grocery stores
$4.99, Bangor Maine- Shaw's grocery stores
I buy at Sam's Club, where it's $7.74 for TWO dozen eggs.
ETA: Hannaford is the major grocer in our area (basically pretty much north of Portland, ME). There are at least five within 10 miles of my house, as opposed to one Shaws market. We don't have options such as Aldi or any of the major grocery chains people are posting about. We do have super Walmart and Target, but I rarely shop there. The meat and veggies are questionable at Walmart, and Target usually is more expensive, overall. We also have a BJs but no Costco anywhere in Maine, as far as I can tell.

Last week when my mom went grocery shopping every store in my area was out of eggs completely and Mom had checked Walmart who was sold out and checked Smart And Final and they too were sold out and Mom even checked CVS and CVS had no eggs as well. But just out of the blue Mom got a good deal on eggs at Safeway yesterday and she got the last carton. My family used to buy Eggland's Best eggs until they changed the taste and I can't figure out why Eggland's Best did this

I get them at Whole Foods for $3.99/dozen, and it's been that price for at least a couple of years. They definitely have more expensive choices, and they have slightly cheaper options too. But the ones I get (cage-free) are $3.99. I feel like that's a decent price. We'll go through a dozen in maybe 7-10 days.

Kind of weird that Whole Foods eggs are cheaper than Wal-mart. But I've actually found several things they have that are cheaper than other major grocery chains.

For years now I have purchased my eggs in Walmart. The Jumbo eggs were always about $2.89 per dozen. Now they are $5.99. What I have noticed is that they are still on the shelf and Walmart has resorted to dedicating almost half of their egg selection to smaller eggs which they call "large" but are closer to what we used to call pullet eggs and are selling for just a little over $3 a dozen.

Somehow, it has become a situation where they don't sell them for $5.99 but leave them on the shelf unsold. Why does that make sense? They are not short of supply, just short of imagined to be affordable supply.

Freeeeeeeeee!

(Well, not really. Costs more to feed and house the chickens in the backyard then if I just bought them. But they're really fresh!)
Yeah, my DD has a few chickens. With the cost the housing, food, whatever…..I’d say in only 15 years they should break even.

During the winter, she gets barely enough eggs. Summertime, eggs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

$7 or more unless I make my way to Trader Joes.

It all started when the rules for cage free dovetailed with the sick flocks and I guess once they got so expensive people just adapted and prices stayed there. I do hope it brings back local egg farmers though, I'd prefer local eggs :)

A dozen eggs at Kroger in my north suburb of Denver are $7/dozen.

The Avian Bird Flu has struck hard again, and the prices reflect that.
