I usually go thru about 18 eggs every 2 months so honestly, I don’t price them often. I know I pay more for them since they’re organic and cage free.

There were NO eggs available when I as at Safeway on Monday
Same here in NY. I was in 2 different stores in the past 3 days (one a large local supermarket chain, the other Trader Joe’s), and noticed neither had regular eggs. One had only cartons of egg substitute and prepackaged hard boiled eggs in the space where fresh eggs normally go; and the other had completely empty shelves. I last bought eggs right before Christmas and don’t remember the price.

For Me…….As I mentioned above, I’m in NW Indiana, which is considered the Chicagoland area and at Jewel they are $5.99 (picture below
Lucerene, cage free (premium brand) at the Jewel, $3.49 (NW Chicago suburb) Avian flu raises egg prices a lot. Once the layers repopulate, prices will come down.

Lord, you folks need to e-mail me some eggs!
California. Bird Flu. Plus only Cage Free Eggs are legal here.
Paid $7.42 for a dozen Great Value Eggs at Walmart Sunday.
Checking prices online at our local grocery chains, it makes no sense. Store brand are $8.98 . Egglands Best , HOWEVER, is only $5.99. Egglands Best is usually the more expensive brand.

Mind you, I rarely grocery shop at our Walmart, but eggs are nearly double there according to the Walmart app. They're not California high, but a dozen Great Value eggs are $4.53 at the Walmart Neighborhood Market a mile away. I go a half a mile further to Kroger (I guess Ralph's on the west coast) and I'm paying $2.49 for a dozen. So, it's not just what you buy but where you shop.

I checked the Meijer store near me and they have 12 eggs for $3.99 and 24 for $7.39. Surprises me because they are very rarely lower in price than Walmart.

Well sure, the flocks Walmart sources their eggs from were hit by the avian flu but Eggland's Best were not. It's the same here.

ETA: I stand corrected, apparently Egglands Best suppliers have been affected by avian flu as well in some areas but I would venture to guess not as hard.

A dozen large white eggs range from $3.69-$3.99 at my store, Meijer in central Ohio, except for the super organic, free-range eggs, which are more expensive. Brown eggs cost slightly more than white eggs. I just bought eggs this morning.

The strange thing to me is that the brand-name eggs (Eggland's Best) were less expensive today than the store-brand eggs even the "penny-saver" ones which is what I usually buy (they're in a paper carton instead of foam, they're often not quite as consistently sized, and are a little less expensive than the regular store-brand eggs.). The price does seem to fluctuate on eggs quite a bit but none of them were listed as "on sale." That's just their regular prices right now.

** Just read that someone else noticed Eggland's Best being cheapest at their store, too. I have literally never bought EB before because they are so much more expensive. I guess I'll get to see if they're worth it.

I haven't bought eggs in a few weeks, but the last time I did I believe they were around $6 or $7? I can't remember exactly, maybe slightly less. In Northern CA.

Yes, it's the bird flu that's causing it, CA got hit pretty hard. The last time there was a big avian flu outbreak that caused egg prices to skyrocket was back in April or so...although I don't think it was quite as bad. And now bird flu is able to infect cows, so that's going to be fun.....

$4.57 at Aldi just outside the Philadelphia area. Shoprite prices in Philadelphia are weird because Eggland's Best used to be more expensive but are now consistently cheaper than the store brand. Store brand are $4.97 and EB are $3.79 a dozen.

ETA- Now that I've read the thread it seems that this is a trend that the Eggland's Best is cheapest. Who knew?

Friend of mine was complaining about the price of eggs. I replied that why do you care? You are driving around in a $65,000 car. He replied that it was the principal of the matter. LOL

LOL. These days that is dangerously close to the average prices of a new car ($48,000). So far I have managed to stay under $30,000, but a hair. Our 2020 Camry Hybrid with tax license fees was $29,975

I just bought eggs this week. Frankly, I can't tell you the cost. I needed them so cost was going to make a difference. What I can tell you is that there was a very prominent sign where the eggs were explaining that the price of eggs has gone up because of Avian Flu. Until that's in hand, I think you can expect to see the cost of eggs high and/or going higher.

Maybe they were able to afford that car because they were frugal in their grocery shopping? ;)

Very much depends on the store and if there are coupons AND location. Where we live we can cross to the next town or county and find lower prices. They def price to the median income.

North Atlanta ~
Aldi they are $3.49 a dozen, they have consistently been higher than the big grocers.
Kroger they are $3.99 a dozen today - but at the beginning of they week they were $2.99 and less if you used a coupon. Like with a coupon I could get them for $1.99. Now I can get ORGANIC Cage Free for $3.99 Or Cage Free Brown for $2.99.
Walmart is $4.53 (laughable)
Publix is $3.89

Just the stores continuing to rip us and the farmers off.
