*sigh* Is there any way to get out of a Hotwire reservation?

I am very unhappy with my "win" of the Ramda Plaza inn gateway. I purchased the travel insurance, but I'm not really sure what I can do to get out of it. I am kicking myself for not doing more research before booking. If I can get out of this, we can stay an extra night PLUS upgrade our tickets. I found a rate at a different hotel that is less than half of what we paid for the Ramada. Any ideas??

TIA,
Wendi

I don't know the answer to your question, but I am sure the people at www.biddingfortravel.com can help you if nobody here can. It is more of a Priceline site, but they do have Hotwire info also.

Good Luck!

I have just not gone to a few priceline wins that I had. I know that it is a waste of money, but they were my fault, just a change in plans and I would rather spend my time at places I want to. Happiness is more valuble than money when you come down to it. Why be miserable for $50? (I don't know what your loss is.) :wave2:

Thanks Tiberius, I will check it out.

Denise, $212!! I really don't want to just lose the money, as we are on a budget, which is why I went with the $59 choice. The part that really stinks is that the rate on the Ramada website is $58.50.

I know we will only be in the room to sleep and bathe, but I really dont want to feel like I'm in a filthy place. I already hate hotels for this reason. *Lysol in hand* lol

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks,
Wendi

Not much you can do. When you check in complain/take pictures. If it's bad enough you may get a refund. Check in early and if the room is very dirty just keep asking for a different room. I think your hotel is rated 2* which basically means you can't expect much more than a room.

What hotel are you looking at for half the price? Most $30 hotels are dumps. I certainly agree you could have gotten a nicer property for what you're paying.

FOR FUTURE USE. Hotels are frequently "mis-rated", even with PL and to a greater extent Hotwire. There are usually hotels in each catagegroy that probably belong in a lower class. In other words if you bid or reserve a 2* hotel you may wind up with a hotel that you consider 1*--a real dump.

It generally makes sense to use PL/Hotwire for more expensive properties, getting the Gaylord Palms for half the going rate makes sense. For a lower * hotels you really should book conventionally. As you found you really don't save enough. Pick your own buget property and you may chose a newer property, one with a free breakfast and no resort fee. Usually more than compensate for any price difference.

drewandwendi, I went to Trip Advisor and their reviews are not bad at all.
I also checked Ramada's own website and the hotel sounds fine! Really! I've never stayed there but they have 2 Queen Beds,a fridge,microwave,iron/ironing board, blow dryers and lot's of great channels on the TV. I'm sure once you get there,check-in and see your room I'm sure you will like it better than you think you will.
I have also made bids for hotels on Priceline and Hotwire and then pannicked
(actually freaked out) saying I will absolutely hate this hotel but once I got there and settled in I was very glad I did not throw my reservation (or my money) away.
I just don't want to see you throw over $200 away when it's possible it's a perfectly acceptable hotel....
Good Luck whatever you decide....But if you do decide to stay there after all please come back and give us a full review!!

I will never bid on or accept any hotels under 3* in that area..I unfortunately think that was your first mistake. I hope it all works out ok though

I had a similar experience with Hotwire. The property was listed as 3* and I panicked when I realized the location. The hotel was in a seedy part of Kissimmee, not the part that is closer to WDW. When we pulled up to the "motel", I realized that there was NO WAY it could have ever been a 3* listing, much less a 1 1/2*. I asked to look at a room, and it was disgusting---the counter in the bathroom was broken off in half, and the carpet was almost black with stains. I went back out to my car and called Hotwire and explained the situation, and told their CS representative that I felt that the "hotel" had been misrepresented to me. I asked for a refund. They complied with my request, but only after I booked another property for that night through Hotwire. I had done quite a bit of reading on the betterbidding.com boards, and felt safe selecting one of the properties I was offered. In the end we had a much nicer hotel, and were very happy with the way it all worked out.

BTW, it might have worked out like it did because the property I had originally booked had been downgraded since my booking. That probably helped my case, but I was prepared with a digital camera to back up my claim.

Hope that helps!

Debbie, this is what I thought as well! HOWEVER, that is the tower, NOT the area where my room was booked. Thats my point-very misleading. Yes, the reviews are mixed, but I expected a little nicer since I've had better luck in the past. Hotwire says it's a Best deal!! 2 1/2*

Wendi

drewand wendi, If I were you I would call Hotwire and explain to them the same way you explained to me and tell them how misleading this is. Or call the hotel directly and see if you can get a tower room. You might be able to upgrade without paying extra $$.
I'm really rooting for you and hope you find a solution!!
Debbie

Thanks Debbie. I did send an email to the generic "contact us" addy on the Ramada website. I emailed back and forth a couple of times, and all they offered was an upgrade to the tower for $20/night. That's the same price as the website. I was told to contact the property directly as "he" didn't have the authority to "price adjust". Well, I thought it was a load of crap, but I think I will take your advice and call the hotel directly.

Thanks!!
Wendi

Ok, so I call the property and get the MOD on the phone. He was very nice, but said he couldnot upgrade. He also said no to my request for breakfast. He did offer to upgrade to a poolside (which he said is $10 more) and to noting that I would like a room near the lobby (for convenience). He also said that if I get there and I'm unhappy with the room to ask for him. If I am unhappy with the room, he will move me to another room(in the same vicinity). i guess this is the best I can do. I actually have 2 reservations at the property and I will probably cancel the 1st one, which I made on my own. Now to find a less expensive, but better quality hotel in that same area...

Thanks for the advice,
Wendi

Ouch! yes, that would be a big waste. Mine were one night bids.
I would do what the others said. Go and see it. I bet it will be OK. I don't bid on less than 3* either and usually do Resorts and 4*. (Learned the hard way)

Yeah!! Wow,That great! It must make you feel a little better about the reservation?!! Even if you don't want to pay for an upgrade you can see your room (I'm crossing my fingers you'll like it!) and if your not happy you can be sure you'll get another one. And who knows, maybe a 'better' one at that!
I don't think you should have any problem finding another hotel in that general area. I hear there are lot's of them.
And your only 1 mile from Disney at the Ramada too!
Woo-hoo...
Hope you have a great vacation!
Debbie
