Hi! This might seem like an odd question, but can you buy the resort mug without staying at a resort? and if I have an old mug that's from years back, will they be able to exchange it for a new one? (I know Universal have done that for us in the past)

You can. Not sure why you'd want to unless particularly fond of a design.

I suppose it might be worthwhile if you'll eat a lot of resort QS. It can't be refilled anywhere but at Disney resort QS.

No. Disney does not do this.

so if I buy one, can it be refilled at any quick service resort or does the chip have to be activated?

We've used ours at any resort in the past. Just not in the parks or DS restaurants.

They will not, you will need a mug with a programmed new microchip that is activated at the point of sale. You can still use your old mug for coffee, iced teas, hot chocolate and water from the mug refill stations for they don't require a chip. By the way folks, if you use your refillable mugs at home, the new 50th Anniversary Mugs do not fit under a Keureg.

Water, yes, as there's no charge for it.

However, there's a charge for coffee, tea and hot chocolate, so an old refillable mug ought not be used for these even if it does work on those machines. Can and should differ somewhat when it comes to this issue.

The refillable mug is to be used only during the stay for which you purchased it.

Since the OP asks if you can buy one though not staying at a Disney-owned resort, they could continue using the mug for 14 days total, the usual term of use, after which the chip would be inactive.

of course, I am not endorsing stealing drinks, I wasn't clear...forgive me.........you would have to purchase a new mug and you can use your old one for refilling the iced tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc..just keep the receipt in your phone case or take a photo if a CM asks you if they notice your mug is outdated.

In the past you could reactivate an old mug for a slightly reduced price versus buying a new one. Is this still possible?

not exactly a refillable mug question, but does Disney leave dish soap in the hotel rooms so you can clean your mug every day.

No dish soap. However, the resort mug refill stations that I've seen have a sink nearby with sign that it's available for cleaning your mug.

Last I knew the mugs are not resort specific if thats what you wanted. The resort name wont be on it

Sadly, Disney no longer does resort-specific mugs. Every resort has the same generic-themed mug. Handle and lid colors vary, and sometimes there are 2 or 3 variations of the picture, but it's all basically the same mug. Clearly it saves money for Disney, as that's what Disney is all about now, but I miss the resort-specific mugs. I have several and am always looking for others on e-bay.
