is the quick service dining plan a good option? ive heard mixed reviews and i know its probably not as cost effective as just paying out of pocket but im not the best at saving money for food, any and all opinions would be appreciated!

It honestly depends on how many days, if there anre any children and if you find/want alcohol with any of your meals.

I’d say 25% are able to get value out of it while 75% would’ve saved money paying out of pocket especially if any credits go to waste.

I have seen your other posts so I know you are traveling with teens. This is going to make it hard to come out money ahead on the QS plan as they won’t be getting alcohol. That is one of the best ways to get your money’s worth. If you get a free dining promotion and stay in a value or moderate that would be a good deal.
Trying to get a deal like that would require being flexible on travel dates. Otherwise you could start buying Disney gift cards and have those to pay for your food. If you buy cards on deals you can save 5-10% easily.

this sounds like a good idea, my only concern with that is buying a gift card for disney means i needs to be used at disney and im not sure how much to budget for food for 7-8 nights, im the queen of not being able to save

Agree on this point. But what I did instead since my son is a "Disney adult" and doesn't like soda and brings his refillable water, was mobile order and then I had two alcoholic drinks. So money's worth that way but then again, having two beers with lunch wasn't always the best idea. Ha!

Lots of older threads about dining plans. None of the Disney dining plans are about saving money. Some people like to pre-pay for their food and have a 'not to exceed' figure for meals before they travel. What the 'value' of that would be is difficult to quantify. Disney likes dining plans since you are less likely to eat offsite somewhere when you have already paid Disney for all of your meals.

Buying a bunch of Disney gift cards might not be the best idea regardless of any % discount, since you can only use them there. How often do you go to Disney and do want the leftover money tied up in a gift card you probably won't be able to use until your next trip?

this is my first disney trip, so i likely would not go the route of gift cards

How does an “adult” ordering a kids meal work on the quick service dining plan? Can you do it? Two or my kids are Disney adults but prefer kids meals. Does it just give you a lump per day (10 for 5 people) or is it specifically broken down (8 adult meals 2 kids meals). I like the idea of being able to get an adult beverage without the sticker shock and not having to think about prices since it’s pre-paid.
Saw the Disney visa offer but we don’t plan on doing a sit down every day.

It's broken down by type. I'm not sure if Adult meals can bump down to order a Kids meal, but I don't see why not. It's the other way around (kids credit to an adult meal) that would not be an option. But you don't get the value. Most places have the kids meal but in adult versions (i.e. more chicken tenders, adult side, etc)
