@Kirby :cheer2: That's awesome news. I'm sorry it took so long for it to be resolved!

Good morning. We had some rain yesterday, along with 80 degrees. Then the temps dropped down, but stayed at 60 overnight. Everything is wet, which is sad, because I was going to mow the grass today. Calling for chance of storms this afternoon, and rain all of next weekend. I did weedwack some of the longer grass around the edges of the flower beds and some tall spots on the side and front lawns, but the grass is growing like crazy.

Summer has to drive her husband back to work today, and she's getting a hotel room overnight so she doesn't have to drive when she's tired. She'll be home tomorrow.

Have a good last Monday of March!

Good early morning dear friends. Temperatures here have been cooler. Early yesterday morning I awoke to rain that didn't last long. How beyond blessed we are that no matter any outside weather or inside our hearts storm, God is our sunshine no matter what. I sure thank each of you always for spreading His warm light through your faith and care.

Love to all and have a happy last day of March.

Thread save to share I just finished my second pt session for today. Both went very well. I was able to peek into my old room. It's a MESS! There's a hole with dirt in the front half (where my roommate's bed would be) of the room. What was disappointing is that there were no workers anywhere. Dad described the state of the room to me Saturday and it doesn't seem as though anything has changed. Dad when he's here today will check it out.

The admissions lady stopped by very briefly earlier. Dad and I keep her prayer as she doesn't seem too happy. I told her I was okay considering. She promised to come back with a room update after her meeting. Dad will go find her if need be. She also said that she wants this done because she, "is losing money." Odd wording. I am pretty sure she meant this awful facility is losing money on empty rooms. All I know is dad and I need to remind her that I absolutely want that room back!

Of course I would much prefer my other room back in the now short term rehab area but we know that won't happrn so I will gratefully take the other. This room is just awful and in location with cursing and tv blaring with a shooting show or movie at all hours :/

Dad, God willing, will be here within half an hour or so :)

Prayers all of you are enjoying this last day of March. Hugs to all.

I understand what she’s saying, Mona.

Staffing ratios are formulated on patient census, ratios, and acuity. So empty beds could be costing the place in staff. Perhaps not right away but if they stay that way, it throws the numbers off. They can’t justify the staff they have at full census if half the beds are empty, see? (It’s the same in hospitals.) So I’m with her (and you) on getting those beds back to functional again!

The question is, why are they working so slowly? Do they not have maintenance crews there daily? Are they doing other things?

Sounds like PT is going well for you. I hope things go back to the way they were for you soon.

🐣

The weather stayed fairly nice, and everything dried out and I got the entire lawn mowed. I was the first one in the neighborhood, until the guy up behind me heard me mowing and out came his riding mower too. The grass was so tall already. Now the sky is cloudy and it looks like it's going to storm. I don't care, the lawn is done for at least a few days, lol

Have a nice evening everyone

Thank you dear Pea with a hug. Maintenance here may mean only three people. I'm not sure. Dad did go by my room and spoke with one of the workers. He also spoke with the admissions lady. Longer story short is workers have made a lot of progress since I saw the room this morning. I may be able to move back in tomorrow. I definitely expect to move back in this week. That was very good news along with the assurance that the admissions lady knows that is my room. I want it back.

This building is very old much like the apartment building dad and I live in. Similarly this place has not been properly maintained over the years. The admissions lady told dad the workers in my room are behind because they keep getting interrupted with other projects. No surprise there. God willing before Friday I will be back in that room. Of course better, by His grace may I be even closer to going home by this Friday.

Hug dear Lynn. REST this evening, please! Your energy is always amazing but please be kind to very special you!

Have a good evening dear friends.

Lynn I hope Summer can stop doing those long rides to bring DH back and forth for work at some point. It is wearing on her and the car.

Flyingdumbo127 I hope you get back into your room soon. That will be one more step towards getting home.

Good morning. It is 47 here with temps pretty much staying around there. I hope it is sunny today after so many dreary days. If it is I plan to go to the lake to walk. My really busy days begin today so off to work.

Have a good day.

Good morning, all. :goodvibes

I'm happy to report that DS got back safely from a trip early this morning. (It wasn't Disney, sort of "work-adjacent". - He got to go on a retreat that the gym he works for organized...in Costa Rica!) He had one delayed flight, but it was the last leg, so at least it didn't mess up connections. He's sleeping now, but I'm looking forward to hearing all about it later.

I went to dinner with a friend and her kids yesterday, and then to a library presentation on snakes. 🐍🐍🐍🐍 It was really interesting - there were some slides and info about snakes that live here in Massachusetts (we have 14 species - all but 2 are harmless) and then we got to pet a couple. ❤️❤️ The place was packed and the kids really loved it!

Today I have an online class and I'll probably make a quick grocery run. Right now, I'm "purralyzed" -

Good morning It's 38 here now, going to 55. Not as warm as yesterday, but no rain. It rained a little around dinner time, but didn't amount to anything.

The only chores I'm doing today are cleaning out the fridge, taking the trash down, and going to get car for the car and the mower cans. I was so tired last night that I couldn't sleep. It was around 3 am when I finally shut my eyes, only to wake up at 6. I went back to sleep until 8:30.

Have a great first day of April

Thank you dear Snowysmom so much. Prayers you enjoyed your walk and that your workday goes smoothly and quickly.

Keep the snakes FAR from me dear PollyannaMom. Welcome home to your son. I pray he enjoyed a safe and truly positively memorable adventure.

Much better and easier sleep prayers to you tonight dear Lynn. Please take it easy today.

Good Morning friends and April joy to all with love. I pray each of you walks closer to and with God this Easter month. Always know He is with you.

Last night was a semi restless one here for me for a bit because something very unexpected and sadly unkind as well happened.

It was after 10pm when my 3pm to 11pm nurse along with a male employee, burst into this room and loudly told my elderly roommate that she was moving to a new room. At going on 10:30pm at night. Who does that? And to someone in their 80's? A
Just awful. I felt horrible for her. No reason at all was given. I did have this room to myself all night which was certainly a first!

Thanks to God I enjoyed several hours of sleep. I will be so thankful to go back to the other room maybe even today. I tossed and turned for a while to a male resident cursing and a tv blaring :/

Today by God's grace is a new gift and blessing of a fresh month too. God willing I do get home this April. I will update later.

Love to all always.

Good morning…another restful day here. They gave me a diuretic to help my still swollen feet. I see a slight improvement in bowel function.

Yesterday was home opener for Phillies, they won. ⚾️. My OT had come before the game and gave me additional hand exercises which I practiced during the game. I also did some walking back and forth in our living room.

@flyingdumbo127, I hope and pray you will be going home this month!

@PollyannaMom , I have a dear friend, Joyce, who has two adorable cats, and I will definitely pass along your picture to her!

I have a very frustrating update that someone moved into my room that was not me, I'm still stuck in here. Dad went by my old room on his way here when he first came today at lunchtime. I saw the room early this morning during pt. The holes were covered with cement. At that time the laminate flooring had yet to be laid. It probably still does. I don't know.

Long story short is there is a man in my room who is in isolation because he's infectious! Why I couldn't have been moved in there and he moved in here seems to be beyond everyone. I just keep being told, "Management." I was just told that supposedly on Friday I can move back in there because the infected man will be able to go back to the room he was in.

Dad and I, of course pray, the room will truly be properly fumigated. We have little way of knowing. Dad feels at risk here in the hallways as it is. Sooner God willing the so much better for me to get out of here. Extra, extra prayers much appreciated!

It gets worse. Dad was promised no one would be moved in here today. Guess what? At 8pm or 9pm tonight a new lady is moving in here. No one has any idea of her condition because she's new. Everyone is also claiming my elderly roommate who mainly speaks Chinese wanted to move into the room she's in now. Or her family requested that. Her roommate is a lady who screams in conversation with herself constantly yet she is called quiet! All of you may remember that I spent several hours in that room before moving into the room I came here from. My old roommate seemed to love and vice versa the morning nurse of this room so that makes her move make less sense but around here, who knows?

Dad prayers please. I'm most concerned about him. He is stressed by this and taking it very much to heart. I feel so badly. Neither of us have much choice. I am grateful right now to still have the room to myself....Hugs to all with always thanks and love.

Mona, there are a lot of reasons for things that happen that sometimes staff don’t even know about. I happen to know about many because I’m either on, or have been on, different committees that work on projects like those for all areas of hospital operation. I will give you an example.

Perhaps the new “infectious” patient has the Flu. Or, better yet, TB (or being ruled out for it). Or Covid! That room may have special ventilation that someone who’s contagious has to go in in order to keep the airborne germs contained to just that room (rather than float out into the hallway). Sometimes for things less infectious than TB, like the flu or covid or rhinovirus, they may put two people in the same room who have the same thing (via lab studies). but isolate them together rather than taking up two rooms with one patient each in them.

Truth is, when there are double rooms, it’s a lot more difficult than it is when there are all private rooms. With double rooms people get moved all the time. Sometimes it may be because of roommates not getting along, or for staff purposes, like, if someone requests something they will try to accommodate. (Even like having men or no people of color can cause people to go on a side where there aren’t as many scheduled.) I once saw a young man so angry at his elderly roommate peeing in the sink that he got up and punched the elderly man! Sometimes they need to make a “male” room or a “female” room by moving a male or female to another room because generally men and women aren’t put in the same room unless they’re related. Lots of considerations.

Confused people are often put near the nurses’s station so they can keep a better eye on them without being way down the hall and having to put an aide in there. Very common.

Where I work housekeeping routinely goes into precaution rooms between 2 and 4am to empty the trash! No one likes that. But after a day of gowns and gloves and poop pads and what not, they need to be emptied or they overflow and smell.

I could write a book on this stuff.

My suggestion would be for you and your dad to talk to the head administrator to discuss the issues you’ve had. Stick with just the top three issues to start. See if you can get that person on your side. (Which may require appearing reasonable and trying to compromise, realistically. Yes, you’re a patient, but they have a business to run, too.) They can direct things to happen. Unfortunately talking to other people who aren’t administrators may not yield the results you want. I hope you can get better and go soon, and keep up your progress at home.

As I said before, I had a lot of issues myself when Mom was in a rehab. I still get a bad feeling when I drive by there. I also worked in nursing homes in my youth so I know how they are, which is why I initially didn’t even want to become a nurse! But once I figured out I’d enjoy a hospital, that changed things for me. Although still, even hospitals can be extremely frustrating, as well, which is why a lot of nurses burn out and leave.

Good luck. I’m glad your Dad visits daily. That’s important. Does he ever bring anything for staff? DH made a big pan of brownies last week for staff when I went to chemo. They were a big hit. They got a lot of people in the room. They’re looking forward to next time. A little can go a long way. (I buy the brownie mix at Aldi’s for $1 and it’s the best!)

🐣

Thanks always dear Pea. Short reply as it's late. To dad and I (and some staff) it feels like compassion and common sense are often lacking here in management. Staff for the most part sure do their best! I have put in a complimentary word for several of them.

I have been waiting a month+ to talk with the director of this place. Oh well it is what is and grace of God I pray to have kept my faith and be going forward!

Wishing everyone sweet dreams.

Mona I am sorry things are not going very well at the nursing home. The good news is you are making good progress with PT. Pea n me has alot of good advice and information. I hope you can speak with someone in charge soon who can actually help. My Dad was fortunate in that he stayed in the same room for the almost 3 years he was in the nursing home. However we did have to talk with staff sometimes about issues which I think is the norm in any nursing home.

Pea Good advice for Mona. Thinking of you and hoping you are feeling well most days. The brownies is a great idea. People love the sweet treats.

Good morning. It is 29 here with the real feel of 22. Temps heading into the 40s again. I walked at the lake yesterday and while it was windy and a bit chilly in places it was so nice to be outside with the sun shining. Work has been a challenge this week and tomorrow I have to do a new task that I am not sure I can accomplish with the 5 minute training I had. My boss makes complex spreadsheets that work for her but they are typically not easy to follow for others without alot of time and experience using them. I can only do my best. I wish I cold retire at some point but I really do need to keep busy. Oh well, I can keep busy trying to make sense of the spreadsheets.

Have a good day.

Good morning hug to all,

Thank God no one did move in here last night. I did also get some good sleep. Please always know it's never my intent to complain just share. I am, of course, human and this place truly is awful. Thank you all dear friends for all your extra care and prayers. Today by God's love is a new one. How blessed I am. I definitely will be most thankful for the old room back and how even more fantastic it will be to get out of this place after all this!

Thanks dear Snowysmom. Hugs. What about teaching a computer class? I believe libraries even offer them. You know I so wish dear you peace always.

Dear Lynn, hug and may your errands go very smoothly and quickly.

Wednesday joy to all. I will check back in later.
