Possible Return of DME?

Walt Disney World has started a pilot program that’s testing the return of the popular Resort Airline Check-In service.

Tom does not post garbage or fake news. This is promising, even if it comes at a fee.
Hopefully, if it’s a success (and it’ll definitely be one, because everyone has been begging for it), they’ll continue the rollout all the way to the DVC resorts at WDW.

This would be a fantastic shift in the right direction. I had also read that article and I'm hopeful as the bag handling was one of those two key components, so it's possible. We like the bus and don't necessarily like the ride-share options. Like the article said, it was a part of the bubble that was popped. Funny how 'Pop' Century is the first to work on the baggage. Re-inflating the bubble perhaps.

Now that's my kind of pun.

I'm already pretty happy with the Mears Sunshine bus thingie. If Disney partnered back up with them and let us book that sucker with our rooms at a reasonable price, I think I'd use it for most solo trips.

And if they charge for it most of the time, that's another little promo they can do sometimes, like free dining.

We are not going to need a service like this right now as we always drive. One could argue I was "subsidizing" ME before...

That said...

I think the bag check in thing is something truly magical and extraordinary. It, if done well and reliably, sets the initial moment of landing at MCO in a completely different light - and is also quite practically helpful to young families which are already dealing with he stress of strollers and other items that make moving the luggage even harder. This would be a real BRAVO for Disney if they were to bring it back!

Maybe if "phase 1" goes well, they will consider a "phase 2".

DVCfan has an article talking about how MCO is looking for a Magical Express like service to help them deal with congestion. Feels like with this coming back, isn't crazy farfetched to imagine Magical Express being revisited.

Maybe but I would almost guarentee it's going to be at a cost.
Most likely. But it seems MCO is looking for someone to come in and offer the service to help with their congestion and are willing to pay someone for the service, maybe Disney looks at that as enough offset to just provide the service and build goodwill.

Starbucks has recently led a campaign to go back their customer service friendly ideals from the past. I'm hopeful Disney sees that and would look at mimicking something similar, especially as their competition is ramping up.

Given the lines at SW baggage check at MCO, I’m sure they are hoping this eases that problem. It was bad this past Sunday midday. After I tagged my bag, I waited like 20 minutes to drop it off at the counter with the ID check. Now, they were understaffed, they had space for more workers but nobody there. Maybe they are thinking the Private contractor at Disney can help. I did love that service! And it adds work to Bell services that could be avoided instead of folks dropping off and picking up again on check out day. This seems like a win for everyone, potentially.

Our DVC dues did not go down when it went away. You could search back through the threads, but I seem to recall that someone ran the #s and it worked out to be < $10/year for a normally sized contract - so it was just sortof lost in the dues calculation for that year.

Just saying, I hope that is not forgotten - but yeah, I'd pay if DME returned, especially with the luggage service. That was really nice. You just don't know what you've got until it's gone.
