Popcorn Bucket - Refills

when did WDW start accepting the old buckets? I am still reading blogs stating they are only good for refills for length of stay: https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022...bucket-you-can-get-in-disney-world-right-now/
just triple checking before I find room in my bag (I travel carry-on only and have very limited space).
According to the website it's still length of stay only. Apparently everyone has been filling them for years though. I'm the only one I know who had trouble and I bought it the day before🙄🤣🤪 here's the info listed on a menu

Sorry for your luck. We do try to bring buckets from different parks. I.e we bring MK to HS and the HS one with Star Wars over to MK. Never had a problem.

If we did we would just buy another one or go to a different cart.

I haven’t seen it at each place, but some have signage that it’s only for length of stay. So they could refuse an old bucket.

It does say that on the signs. I am a snowbird with an AP who stays in an RV in the area for 4 months in the winter. I use the same bucket during that time, because that is the length of my stay. I buy a new one the next winter and start over.

First time was at Typhoon Lagoon shortly after they reopened for the season. Since then I have also paid that price at Epcot (by Creations), AK (near It's Tough to be a Bug entrance), and Ice Cold Hydraulics at HS.
I just looked through my receipts from my recent trip.
On 9/14/2024 I purchased a popcorn refill and a Sprite at the Epcot popcorn cart near Creations (it says EC Ice Cream IC102 on the receipt). The popcorn bucket refill was $2.25. The soda was $3.75. Total = $6.00

Seems like it might be an "unofficial" policy to refill older buckets. I think for most CMs it's not worth the trouble of arguing over $4 worth of popcorn (in real dollars, probably even less)

They need to follow Tokyo Disney because they have collapsible popcorn buckets. I have an Alice one and it's great! If the US parks did the fun popcorn flavors like they do at Tokyo and took non-US buckets, I'd bring it.
I think I might be looking for one of these online to bring with me in the future! (They always have the cutest buckets.)
