We are cruising in December with our extended family- my son and nephew will both be almost 18 months old and DH is worried about the railings on the decks. We have cruised twice before kids so we never noticed but is there a plexiglass barrier on the railings of the deck? He is worried about the boys accidentally running off. Obviously we will have strollers and will be watching them like a hawk but it is more for peace of mind.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

There are no open railings on the ship. The closest thing is the plexiglass lower railing but it is only see-through, not "get through". These ships are as near to "kid proof" as humanely possible...Watch like a hawk but relax in shifts...

This is the railing all along most of Deck 4 - you can see the reflection of my flash in the plexi.

And this is around most of Deck 10 - again, you can see the plexi reflections

I don't have any pictures, but I recall plexiglass on all of the exterior railings -- would you expect any less from Disney?

That's exactly what I was looking for- thank you!

The plexi is INSIDE the railing, so little feet can't scale it.

Deck 9 is enclosed in plexi probably ten feet high.

And if that doesn't calm you - a gazillion children have sailed Disney - some of them with much less attentive parents who have had too many Bahama Mamas - and it isn't likely yours will be the first to accidently fall off.

Even if you look at the men in the pics, the railing is mid-chest height. The only way they can topple over is if they stand on something. Not quite sure what the problem is on the RCCL ships. I was on one, but don't quite remember if the railings were any lower. I'll have to dig out my pics!

I have an 18 month old, and that's the farthest thing from my mind. (her falling off) Don't worry...they'll be fine!

Some of the plexi goes all the way to the ceiling. My dh and a friend were playing ping pong. There was maybe an inch, inch and a half gap between panes. Yep. You guessed it. Right through. Whole wall of plexi and they hit it through the most random area.

I'm a nervous Nellie to with ds5, but Disney is as safe as we're going to have.

Never been on a cruise before, but any of you seen small children standing on a chair to look over? Are chairs close to the railing that one could be slid in a matter of seconds? The thought of it makes my stomach sick. It can take only seconds for a little one to do something forbidden. My 7 year and 4 year dd's are VERY curious. I'm afraid if I turn my back for one second they will have walked away or maybe even slid one of those chairs. :scared1:
Well now I am scared and sick thinking of it. :sad2:

Oh how I know that feeling in the pit of my stomach - still get it and they are 16, 22 and 25! My thought would be that since they can see through he plexi-glass I am not sure they would see a need to pull a chair over but - if they did and for some reason you were focused on something else, there are way too many people for someone else to not notice and step in (and the scraping of the chair would catch your attention as well. Besides the fact that the chairs have the one way strip weaving on them and would not be very condusive to standing on, especially with little feet.

I read a guide book before the cruise that described the Wonder and Magic as wrapped in plastic wrap...I didn't get it - until I was on board
It really is!

My 3 year old climbed on the chair on verandah. I, of course was right there, so I grabbed her right off and she got a good spanking.

If I was in the bathroom getting ready or doing something else in the room, then yes, we could have had a big scare, it only takes seconds.

But on the decks, the deck chairs are pretty heavy, I don't think they could push them to the railing...

Then they would need the arms of a gymnast to be able to lift themselves up over the railing. It's just such a non-issue to me (I have an 18mo old) and I just wouldn't even spend the time worrying about it. I'd be more worried about being in a car accident on the way to the airport. If they are on Deck 9 in the pool area, chances are good that a parent will be there with them, and that is the area w/ all the plexiglass. Kids usually don't roam freely on Decks 4 or 10, so I wouldn't worry about it. They'll be fine.
