Hi,

My son (12) has severe Peanut & Tree Nut Allergies. What are going to be my best bets for restaurants at US, IOA, and/or CityWalk? I'm extremely unimpressed with what Universal posts online compared to Disney.

Thank you for your help in advance!

My daughter is allergic to peanuts & almonds. On our past few trips we’ve eaten at 3 Broomsticks, Cowfish (we liked this meal every time), Leaky Caludron (wasn’t our favourite), Hard Rock Restaurant (this option was really good for breakfast). We’ve had meals at a few resorts as well that were good for allergies. We did talk to someone at the sit down locations about allergies and found options. Compared to Disney, they aren’t as good for allergies, IMHO. The quick service options weren’t great - some took forever to get the information and there were often “May contain” items so we couldn’t choose them. It’s been about 3 years since we’ve been, so it may be different now, but that is what has worked for us.

As a fellow ana to peanut/tree nut, there are a few places I won’t eat at, but they are mostly in City Walk. I haven’t had problems anywhere in US or IOA. I have to have someone go into Florean’s to get icecream for me and tell them about my allergy. They have been great so far at avoiding contamination by using clean scoops and opening new tubs. I avoid Toothsome, CowFish, and Big Fire. Big Fire smokes everything in Pecan wood. I am sensitive enough that that will cause a reaction. CowFish had too much peanut butter on the menu. I can’t even be in the same room. Toothsome might as well be one giant nut ball. I have found other restaurants/quick service to be ok for me otherwise. They are usually really helpful and I can avoid what I need to. I do spend a lot of time pouring over the menus before I go so I can be as informed as possible.

I have a peanut and tree nut allergy and haven’t had any issues. I just make sure to tell the server or not it in the reservation. I don’t eat any desserts, ice cream, or bakery items when out because that’s obviously the biggest area of cross contamination. Mythos was great and only slightly more expensive than QS, we ate at Antojitos, Jake’s at Royal Pacific, and the HP restaurants. The breakfast buffet is a nice option at the hotels but would be pricey to do daily. The quick service at Cabana Bay was very similar to value levels at Disney and is a safe option.

My daughter is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and peas. For quick service, we've had good luck at Three Broomsticks and at Mel's Drive In. For table service, we had good experiences at Confisco Grille, Margaritaville, and Hard Rock Cafe.

Son is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. Ate at Mythos, Finnegan's, Big Fire, Leaky Cauldron, and Louie's without incident. Mythos staff was particularly cautious, and knowledgeable.
