Whenever I make bacon, our whole house stinks like a smokehouse. It doesn't bother anyone but me. I find it nauseating. I have an exhaust fan on upstairs and a window open in the kitchen but the smell is really strong. Is there anything that works to remove smells?

I like the Febreze room spray.

Our downstairs neighbor tends to burn everything or at least overcook everything. We've had some nasty smells wafting up to our apartment.

How do you cook your bacon? I cook mine on the george foreman grill, so all the fat drips off. (It also cooks a little faster, but you do have to turn it.) I've found that because it's not cooking in its own grease, like pan cooking, the odor isn't as bad.

Why in the world would you want to get rid of bacon smell????

I hope you find an answer. When I fix bacon the house smells like it the whole day, even in our bedroom even though the door stays shut. We also can't wear our pajamas again until they are washed.

Fresh bacon smell - good
Old stale bacon smell - not so good.

I find that cooking fresh calves liver tends to mask the smell of bacon...

you can keep a bowl of vinegar next to the stove while youre cooking it will help absorb most of the odour.

I also like the febreeze method. Both the room sprays and the fabric sprays. Its the fabric that really retains the odour.

but Im with another poster, why would you want to get rid of the smell of bacon?

:thumbsup2

I had this problem just 2 days ago. My solution? Make a big ol' bowl of Kimchi. :teeth:
:lmao:
See I'm the opposite. I try to disguise the smell of kimchi with bacon.

OP, put me down as the another one who doesn't understand why you would want to get rid of bacon smell. That said, I cook my bacons in the oven and I don't have too much problem with the smell afterward.:)

burn a lemon candle - lemon candles are great for odor eating those nasty kitchen smells like grease & seafood!

My mom makes my Dad cook bacon outside on the burner with the grill.
She has some kind of food odor thing. She is always turning on the exhaust fan when she comes to visit

Seriously -those little gas powered hot plates are pretty cheap -if you have a deck or patio you could cook it out there

I boil water and cinnamon in a bowl in the microwave and leave it there for awhile.

I've heard as well that you can boil lemon slices in water on the stove or in the microwave in a bowl to remove cooking smells - just like the above with cinnamon.

Once my DH cooked fresh smokehouse bacon. The smell was so bad he agreed to never get it again. His SIL brings it to us from upstate. When we cook bacon I close all bedroom doors too but the smell permeates everywhere. I have to wash all our pj's too.

Wipe the top of the stove with vinegar in case any grease splattered on it.

I hate the smell of bacon, too. When he can, my husband cooks it on the grill. When that's not possible, you can soak a towel in cold water and vinegar, wring it out and walk around the house swinging it around. You'll look and feel stupid doing it, but it will remove odors from the air.

Ugh, cooking smells are the worst!! I'm so sensitive to them. That's actually the excuse I give to my husband when I don't want to cook, ;) and he believes it.:lmao:

Thanks to everyone who gave tips, I will have to try them out when the excuses don't work!
