My favourite ride in all of Disneyland looks like it is going to be closed right when we visit. I am soooo sad. I know they have to refurbish and are doing so at a frantic pace to get things ready for next years celebrations but when you come all the way form Australia for a visit, and this will be our last one for a very long time, I am sad I may not get to ride it. I am really keeping my fingers crossed that it is only a two week minor refurb and will be back on its tracks by the first week of December. Here's hoping.

Did this just appear on the refurb calendar? I hadn't see anything about Big Thunder being down for refurb.

Sure did just this morning from Monday November 18 with no opening time announced.
Hope it only a few weeks. It is one of the few "big rides" my mom will go on. She will likely be disappointed if it is not open while we are there. I have low expectations for this trip, as for me it is HER trip. Other than Tiana's I have no must rides, since I was just there in May. It's been 10 years or so since she has been.

Oh no! Another Aussie coming over in late November/early December - we love Big Thunder too!!!

I feel you, this one hurts

I hope its only down for a week or two

No idea why they didn't address this in the summer

This is my favorite ride and we're going to be there the first week of December, this makes me so sad. I sure hope it will be back by then, we have first and second timers coming that may not be able to come back.

I know right. We visited two years ago in April and Pirates was down so I chose the holiday season this time (first week of December) having looked at previous holiday seasons where everything was open and thought this is the time to go. I totally didn't take into account the big celebration next year. Seriously I plan and take holidays all over the world every year and Disney holidays by far are the most frustrating to get the timing right. I know exactly when to visit Europe/UK to avoid crowds but still have access to the best opening times but Disney always foils my plans. It is so frustrating when we travel from so far and it costs so much to have things like this happen. The sad part for me is we won't be back for several years and this is the first time in ten years my son is joining my daughter and I and Big Thunder is his favourite ride. I really hope it is back by that first week in December.

I didn't know this was happening. It's kind of odd given this is Disneyland's busiest time of the year. We will also be there the first week of December and this is really disappointing. We love the wildest ride in the wilderness!

I know, I guess they think Tiana's being open will be some sort of consolation but I don't like that ride as I hate getting wet. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it is only a short refurb and will be back open by the start of December.

We were last there in 2022 as well, but we went in late December to January. I can't think of anything that was closed then (even Splash Mountain was still open - but very cold!)

Well I will have all my fingers & toes crossed that it just down for a week (or less). :tigger:

This is certainly disappointing and surprising. I believe things are thrown off this year because of the extended closures of HM and Tiana's, they were unable to do a lot of OTHER maintenance during the winter/spring/early summer. There is likely a backlog.

Hopefully, BTMRR is a short one!

Since I've been tracking refurbs, it seems like they typically go down on Mondays and come back up on Fridays. So if that pattern holds, tomorrow could be the first chance of it coming back (when November 22 will be available on the calendar). Fingers crossed it's short for all you December guests🤞

As much as the idea of BTMM being down during what may be my mom's last trip ever to Disneyland, I do understand the need for rides to go down for refurbishment. People can't complain about the sad state of repair of rides but also complain when the rides go down for refurbishment. It doesn't matter WHEN a ride goes down, it is going to effect someone's trip.

Very true and we are not moaning and groaning just stating our disappointment. It is easier for those people who are locals and can visit the park regularly or US residents who can even visit once a year but for overseas guests, especially from Australia, a Disneyland trip is REALLY expensive and so it is doubly sad when your favourite ride is unavailable. I know we will still have a great time but BTM back would make it a perfect trip.

Its the timing

If this ride went down in two months, sucks but it happens

This is the end of the year and we had a dead summer....I just wish Disney got better at refurbs timing.

I just hope now that HM and Splash are done next year we can go back to a more normal refurb schedule and maybe they will FINALLY get ROTR down for a month or two and fix the canons

I am really not saying anyone here was moaning or groaning. I myself expressed my disappointment at the possibility it will be closed during our trip. As I said in my post, this is likely my mom's last trip and the first one in about 10 years. I also probably won't be back for 5 years or so, until the 75th Anniversary. I was just pointing out that (some) people (not anyone specific or anyone on this thread specifically) like to complain about the disrepair of attractions but also complain that rides are down for refurbishment.

A dead summer? Really? All the videos I have seen showed a pretty packed park for July & August.
They had to do summer ticket deals to draw people

It was the perfect time to do it over when people are paying 200 bucks now per ticket on these busy ending days

Summer is dead compared to now make MK are blocked and people don't come to DL in the summer like back in the 2000 and before the parks are busier during spring break now even over the summer

Sorry I didn't mean for my post to come across in an attacking way and you are right people want their cake and eat it too. Lets hope for all of us that the Big Thunder Mountain gods will shine upon us :flower1:
