El Torito claims it is the first Mexican chain restaurant in the country. Sadly, like other legacy restaurants, many of its locations have closed in recent years but there’s still one at Ball/State College - a very short drive from DL. Join their club to receive coupons… ever Saturday members get a coupon (good for up to 8 people, so not everyone needs to join) to enjoy an breakfast entree for $8. The menu price is $13-20, we usually get the Mexican-style eggs with carne asada (about $20). Easily the best sit-down deal in town.
If you’re looking for something more “local,” Sabrosada is within walking distance of DL. It’s a famiily-owned small than that’s been around for awhile. It’s take-out (but they have a seating area) and prices are significantly less than those at DL.
I highly recommend both places, as they are the two Mexican restaurants we regularly frequent (we are now lucky to have a Sabrosada a short drive away).
There’s also plenty of street vendors around Anaheim. They are licensed and go through regular health checks. I don’t eat at them, since their prices are similar Octavia’s and I tend to prefer to support local businesses with a physical presence, but they may be worth a try.
