No more charms

Now that I'm back home I want to share my disappointment from our trip at the beginning of the month. Disneyland was wonderful as always, and we had an amazing time. Except for when we went to DTD to do our souvenir shopping. For several decades, on each trip we each buy a charm for our charm bracelets, and for any member of our family who couldn't make the trip. There has always been a large square table in the World of Disney store filled with small square cups of charms with small enamel characters and other Disney logs etc. It's our favorite part of the trip, choosing a new charm to represent that visit.

But now those charms are gone. The table is full of cheap crappy beads for "make your own" bracelets and necklaces and black cord instead of the silver chains.

My family is incredibly unhappy with this development, and I've sent an e-mail to Disney merchandise expressing that unhappiness. We want our charms back!

I thought I saw those charms a couple of weeks ago in one of the shops (by the watch shop) on Main Street. They had letters and Disney pieces, like Tink's body, Mickey's shoes, etc., and there were also some charms up on display on the wall.

That would be terrible if they stopped making charms! Those charm bracelets were very special to me as a child.

I hope you're right, but I checked in every shop I went into, and asked lots of cast members. They steered me toward the sterling silver charms, which are not the same. The enamel charms are colorful and lovely, and the clasps don't break the same day you buy them as with the silver ones. Three of the ladies that I spoke to said that they had been discontinued and replaced with the beads.

Bumping -- anyone seen these lately? We always collect one on every trip and I'd hate to see them discontinued.

So glad I'm not the only one! I sent an e-mail at the DLR website under the merchandise contact and got a bounceback e-mail stating that the e-mail address didn't exist. I'm not sure who to contact now to get a good response. We visited City Hall/Guest Relations while we were there and got "Oh, I'm sorry. Send an e-mail" as a response.

hmmm I thought I saw them too, in fact I'm sure I did because I usually buy one too, I just didn't this trip because I didn't see one I felt i had to have. I have one with the castle and one that's a Mickey hand, I'm looking for a Tink one. I'll double check when we get there Friday (except we probably won't go to DTD.....) and update when I get back. :)

Any update? I was planning on starting some bracelets for my girls when we go in Oct.

I am sorry for your frustration. Traditions are powerful things and it can be a great loss when they are gone. One ending always leads to a new beginning.

I noticed in May that I couldn't seem to locate any of the charms. I just thought they were out, not going away.

Bummer.

Are you talking about the charms that were in the big square or rectangular free standing display and they had teacups, wands, letters, all kinds of fun things and they were about $3 each and they also sold the little snap necklaces to put them on in different colors? Just curious and my DD loves those and really wants to get another one, her's are starting to break.
Good luck in finding what you are looking for

Do you have a picture of the charms you have bought in the past? I know of charms that are for sale inside DIsneyland, but I do not know if they are the same charms you are referring to. If I saw the ones you are looking for, I might be able to help.

I'm having trouble getting a good photo of mine, but they look very much like the charms on this bracelet I found online. I know we bought ours on Main Street two years ago. Can't recall the store.

Thanks!

Ah! Okay. Those charms. I am going to be at Disneyland on Tuesday. I will stop by a few stores on Main Street and ask around for you. I don't recall seeing them, but you know how it is when you aren't looking for something. I'll let you know what I find out.

You could also call the Park and ask for DelivEARS. Tell them what you are looking for and they can let you know if it's anywhere in the Park (and sell it to you if it is! :goodvibes ). I'll let you know what I discover on Tuesday.

Yes, there is a big square table with small boxes, each with a different charm. The prices usually ranged between $9.95 and $14.95, I think.

I'll take a picture of a few of the charms later when I have a chance. I have quite a few.

I bought a friend a pandora charm and my son's girlfriend bought one on mainstreet but it had a clasp like the one on a necklace to close it? Other than that just the one that my dd bought that was a necklace with charms but it is cheapish for kids. I saw the beads and rope thing you were talking about too.

:thumbsup2

I know the charms you are talking about. They make for great souvenirs.

That is odd. My friend went to DW at the end of May and brought me a charm bracelet with five charms.
It's odd that DW would have them, but not DL.
I hope they are still sold in DW as I am going in October and hope to pick up a few more.

Hope you find them

There are fully made bracelets, which is not the same thing. We did get charms at WDW in February when we were there, but I didn't find any in May at DLR and was told in July at DLR that they had been gone for a while. It's actually not unusual for WDW to have different stuff than DLR at all.

Disneyland sells Pandora charms (or a Pandora charm?) I have a Pandora bracelet and would love one. Do you happen to have a picture of it?

We bought the charm bracelets (not Pandora) on an early trip for my older girls and each trip they picked a new one. I was disappointed we couldn't find any charms on our trip in June. We used to find them in the little store attached to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. I'll be intersted to see if anybody comes across them.
