I didn't realize there was a difference in wording.
What it exactly says is 'Spend $60 on qualifying purchases to earn $10 in Target Circle Rewards'
So do you think this is a DGC qualifying offer?
The way I interpret this is the $10 would show up after the fact in rewards that I can spend in the store? Right?
I did click the activate or accept or whatever it said. But when I look at 'my wallet' it is not a 'saved deals', it is at the top and says 'start shopping' as if an online thing.
Is it a good deal?
Target used to have two categories of deal:
Spend get $x when you spend $y was a real time discount at the register, not points for later. This style does NOT work on 3rd party gift cards like Disney. There are often a ton of other exclusions (brand names like
Lego, which I accidentally found out at Christmas) in addition to 3rd party gift cards.
Spend $x y times to get $z in rewards is where the rewards pop up later and do generally work on DGC, unless there's an error. It's happened to a few people on here, particularly during circle week most recently, but generally these work on DGC and then you have to use the rewards on real goods like clothes or household supplies.
The one you got of Spend $x to get $y is a newer category and more rare. I think we’ve only seen it popping up since they changed the program style, but others can chime in on that. I’ve only had one once, for a higher amount, but, since it’s a spend-now-rewards-later style code, it does generally work on DGC. You can look at the Terms and Conditions to see if the language indicates that it doesn’t work on Third Party Gift Cards, but I think it should.
As to the red card, they do also have a reloadable card that earns the 5% if you don’t want a credit card. The red card discount is especially beneficial for these deals because the pre-discount balance is what the system uses to calculate spend. A Spend $100, get $10, for instance, would actually only require $95 in spend with red card. And, with the reloadable, you can load exact amount. For your Spend $60 to get $10, you could load exactly $71.25, buy the $50 and $25 GC, and get the $10. So that’s an extra 5% earn without actually having to open a new credit card. 13% versus 18% return for your situation, but that totally varies based on how good the target circle offer is.
