New Amazing Race shows start Wednesday March 5!

Impressed by how good many of the women were on the climbing task, wow Brett really killed it.
For the women they might have been thinking how we on average carry our weight or at least part of it. While the guys have that upper body strength you saw the one guy struggle with that because he relied on that for too long tiring himself out. If anyone watches American Ninja Warrior while that vastly favors men to complete and win, there are obstacles that require someone to ease up on the arm strength and instead use their legs more to propel themselves. That climbing challenge on Amazing Race reminded me of that where the arms would be used to reach but not support the entire body weight for long.

I don't know if it was recent or not but she said she developed a phobia of stairs due to it.

They have back ups to call I'm sure just like in Survivor. It's more that it takes the place of someone else who could have competed. We (meaning posters) say this of every season (including Survivor) if there is someone there that is probably not the best fit (or for some situations doesn't seem to take it seriously enough).

I totally get wanting to overcome something like a phobia to stairs but a worldwide physically and mentally challenging competition is IMO not the place to do it when it is so commonplace throughout the challenge. In some situations people who were afraid of heights were able to strategically (or just luck) avoid having to complete in the challenge that had that and instead their partner could. Stairs you're going to encounter just getting to a challenge, getting from that challenge to the mat, using transportation, etc and all on a stressful time crunch.
eh, someone is going home first. It's very often the oldest, least athletic team. As likable as they were, it was highly unlikely they would make it past another round or two, the stair thing doesn't bother me that much in this case. But, no, I would not go on Amazing Race if stairs scared me.

Well of course someone is going home first :upsidedow but this isn't specific to THIS season of Amazing Race. It's something multiple people say at least once every season "don't go on Amazing Race if you can't ____" in the past that was mostly aimed at stick shift but also lack of directional abilities, fear of heights has also been mentioned, etc. Ideally you would have someone knocked out because of something part of the race not because of a pre-existing fear of X or inability to do Y (usually that was stick shift in the past).

I don't think we should take commenting on something to mean it actually bothers someone that much, it certainly doesn't bother me in the end but threads wouldn't have much discussion on them if we didn't you know discuss the players, challenges and obstacles. I've seen a season here and there of Amazing Race or Survivor on the DIS that never gets off the ground as people aren't talking so take it for what you will but it's just a discussion here :goodvibes

They were likeable and full of spunk for sure

it's been a few seasons but we've seen plenty of people afraid of heights or water (as in swimming) I remember one team almost eliminated because one of them was terrified of a water slide
I agree. Heck, they cast people who can't drive a stick shift. They've also cast vegan/vegetarian cast members.

You're going waaaayyyy back for that reference. The girl was afraid to go down the water slide in the Bahamas and the Globbertrotter team talked her into stepping out of the way so they could pass her. Great season!
