I know to most of you this probably sounds dumb, but at this very moment in my life I'm on the verge of a crisis!! My son's birthday party is tomorrow, we've spent WAY too much time on customized decorations and not nearly enough time on the essentials.

Here's the deal: We have 33 people coming, about 18 of which are very young children. As the main dish we're getting a large deli platter that serves 20-22 people (that's the larges they make). There will be various sides, but I wanted to also have another main dish option to make sure there is enough substantial food to go around and I decided on fried chicken.

The question I have is how many pieces of chicken should I order to make sure it doesn't seem skimpy but also to not have an overabundant amount left over? We never get fried chicken normally, so I'm not familiar with what quantities feed how many. Oh, and I need to order this today, I'm hoping they don't need a lot of notice for a large order.

I feel so fried-chicken impaired, please help!

My first instinct was 2 pieces per person. However, since I always end up getting too much food than needed--I still have slabs of BBQ ribs in the freezer from a party in May--1 piece each would be plenty.

I agree, one piece each with all the other food you have. Hope he has a great party!:yay:

just a thought-since alot of the guess will be kids maybe you should just get drumsticks. easy for those little hands to pick up.

I would order enough chicken for each person to have two pieces. I would also order another deli platter. If I end up with too much food, I'd have guests take a plate home with them.

The caterers at my former job did 2 pieces per person/adult, per meal and usually had leftovers. With all the kids and the deli platter, I think you're safe with 1 piece per person.

I know our Wal-Mart and other grocery stores have a box that has 50 pieces for like $35. That's what I would order.
