Anybody get any side effects on Naproxen 500 mg?

I took that for gout a few years back. No side effects that I could tell. An important note. This type of drug is pretty rough on your kidneys. If you have any concerns about your kidney function, I would bring these up to whomever prescribed Naproxen.

That's Aleve, right?

Aleve gives me a headache.

I have a prescription for 550 mg that the gyn gave me for cramps. Works great! I always take it with food, as the instructions say. The paper I got from the pharmacy also says not to lay down for 30 minutes. It can be hard on your stomach but I've never had a problem.

after 4 hours I had to call my Doctor...oh sorry that was my other stuff nevermind

I took a generic Aleve once and it darned near put me to sleep. Figured I couldn't take it. Then I had some of the brand name Aleve and didn't have a problem with it.

Back in my teens I took Naproxen all the time for menstrual cramps and had no side effects.

I get a headache when I use large doses of it as well. I also feel more "drugged" when I take it than large doses of ibuprofen and the like.

Besides needing to take it with food, you should also take it with a FULL glass of water.

OK, thanks everyone. So far, and this is pill #3, it's given me symptoms of the stomach flu (both, if you KWIM). :guilty: If someone sees that truck that ran me over, run away from it! lol... Nothing like going to the Dr. to get better only to feel worse with more symptoms!

The Naproxen is doing nothing for my joints or the swelling in my hands/feet. Dr. is not in today or tomorrow until 1pm, so I will call then and get my blood results anyways.

Oops about the lying down thing, that's exactly what I did this morning because my stomach hurt so bad after taking the darn pill. I have taken it with food and lots of water too. Still makes me feel like crap.

Oh well...

Karen,
The Naproxen does the same thing to my friend. Makes her real sick to her stomach.

You probably just won't be able to take it.

I take it for my bad knees, it's doesn't bother my stomach or anything, so I guess I am lucky. The only thing that everyone should be aware of, is it makes you super sensitive to the sun. If you will be outdoors while taking it make sure you have sunscreen on and are covered up.

I have a prescription dosage of 550 mg. I take them probably more than I should. They do make me a little tired so I take them at night! :cool1:

I came back to say it also upsets my stomach so I *have* to take it with food and really makes my hands swell... I swear I feel like I retain water when I take it.

So nope, it's not a favorite of mine. I am sorry you aren't doing well with it. I seem to fair much better with ibuprofen in general than I do naproxen.

I took it a few weeks ago and was panicking. My heart was pounding, skiiping beats, etc... I was freaking out. I took it right before bed and had a lot of trouble falling asleep because of these scary symptoms. I haven't taken it since.

Take it all the time.. Other than a mild sedative effect, it's fine..

Can't take ibuprofen - severe, severe intestinal and stomach cramps - same for Motrin.. Can't take aspirin either, so I'm pretty much limited to Aleeve and tylenol-based products..

One huge warning I have about this drug is regarding the drinking of a full glass of water and not lying down. My girlfriend took it just before going to bed and didn't drink a full glass of water. It sat in her throat and caused a severe ulcer where she then had to be hospitalized and take by the tablespoon some sort of glycerin looking stuff. Heed this warning strongly.
In addition, my mother is allergic to it. It gave her hives.

Well, there's another wasted prescription. It just took me 4 hours to get off the couch from the drowsiness/stomach problems from the morning pill. I really do dislike wasting money on prescriptions that don't agree with me!

I won't be taking THOSE again! Ugh.

Any other Anti-Inflamatories out there that are gentler?
