My stimulus check is lost in the mail

Last one was direct deposited and this one was mailed. I saw the mailed one on my Informed Delivery email on Thursday and we haven't received it yet. 😕
The post office says to ask them to reissue the check 🤬 but they won't unless it's been 4 weeks. I am so over USPS.

I have had things on informed delivery say they would arrive that day, and not show up till 2-3 days later. At least you know it was scanned by the Post Office, so you know it has the correct address. Hopefully it will show up soon.

I’m sorry that happened to you. The same thing happened to my mother’s stimulus check. We’ve had a lot of problems with lost mail and packages in the last year. I wish I knew why. It’s getting so I dread looking at my amazon orders. It seems every tenth order results in a “sorry, it appears your package has been lost” message. This never used to happen.

Give it some more time before you try getting a replacement. I read somewhere that it's taking longer for checks to be processed.

We received a debit card for the first stimulus. We were one of the last ones.

This time, I kept checking the IRS webpage and it said being mailed January 6 to my listed address. I just received it yesterday - the 15th.

Let us know how you make out.

The informed delivery does not always work well. It’s only one day late at this point. Mine routinely has items listed to be received “today” that I don’t get until 2-3 days later.

My sister sent a large envelope with gift cards for Christmas. I received the informed delivery that it would be delivered “today” on Dec 26. We just received it finally on Wednesday— 19 days later.

I got a letter from the IRS and the only address they had on it was the name of my street. The only reason I got it was because they used my extended zip code. Thankfully the letter was not anything important. I don't trust the IRS or USPS.

Not the stimulus check but some stuff we needed for Christmas was sitting at our post office for 3 weeks before we finally got them. The post office is a mess but so far we've eventually gotten everything, just really late.

The good news is that it showed up on your Informed Delivery. You can go into your dashboard and report that you didn't receive it. But, as others have said, it could come in a few days. Post office has processed it but for whatever reason your carrier didn't deliver. That never used to happen that often, but more so these days.

The USPS has been hit from all directions this year. They are short of staff due to COVID infections which hit crisis proportions over the holidays, overwhelming use of the mail over the holidays for packages and mail that they are still sifting through, and on top of that they've had their hours cut along with other governmental shenanigans. No I don't work for the post office but what's happened to them has been a triple whammy.

It says on the Informed Delivery page to only report missing mail after 5 days from when it shows in your notification. I never wait that long and always go ahead and check the box. I've always received the missing mail 1 to 2 days later. Maybe today will be the day for the OP.

Informed Delivery has only caused me issues.

There have been many instances similar to yours where it shows an item of mail that does not arrive.

I end up trying to find the missing item only for it to be delivered 2-3 days later having wasted a couple hours of my time.

Once it was my son's passport. Lots of time on the phone with the state department only for the passport to arrive 6 days after the scan.

Once it was a check I was expecting. Again lots of time on the phone only for it to be delivered 3 days later.

My informed delivery email yesterday included a paid advertisement from the the U.S. Treasure Dept saying that the stimulus was on the way, not an actual scan of the envelope.

Did you have this notification or a real scan of an envelope?

My parents were mailed last time and this time as they don't do direct deposit with their taxes (although their Social Security check is direct deposited so the government has that info but only uses it if you didn't file taxes apparently.) It took a good 3 weeks after everyone else received theirs via direct deposit until they say the check in the mail.
They have not yet received their checks for this round.
I wouldn't pay much attention to if it says delivered as we know the mail is crazy right now.
If you truly don't receive it then be sure to request it when you file your taxes.

Here's another example of why I no longer place much faith in Informed Delivery. This one is from a couple days ago.

The post card got delivered but not the underlying letter it was stacked on when scanned. Not sure if that letter was even for me or someone else.

Got a Christmas card about two days ago that was postmarked from NYC on Dec 21.

I believe informed delivery is to let you know it's in the system and you will receive it soon. ( meaning eventually). The machine takes a picture of the mail as it is being processed. Only mail processed by the postal service automated system will show up. If a mailer processed the mail themselves it will not show up in the informed delivery. It may take several days to reach you. BTW informed delivery is not accurate.

Saw a news item on TV warning people not to accidentally throw away their stimulus payment thinking it's junk mail. Apparently the IRS is mailing it out as a debit card and some people don't realize what the item is and pitch it.

"Your EIP card will arrive in an envelope from “Money Network Cardholder Services.” Don’t throw it away thinking it’s junk mail or a scam. The Visa name will appear on the front of the EIP card; the back of the card has the name of the issuing bank, MetaBank, N.A."

From an AARP article whose link is not posting properly for some reason.

This is such a mess. My first payment was delivered without issue. I have no idea where my second check is!

My ex hasn't received hers yet. The site tells her "information not available at this time" when she checks.

That is interesting and I'll forward that to my ex.

That's the problem with the massive amount of junk mail put in our boxes. I've thrown important things away before because it was mixed up in a massive amount of junk mail.
