Anyone ever had muscle spasms in your chest? There is no pain at all, just a little sensation which feels like a muscle spasm in my chest. I never had this before and it just started yesterday. I am very healthy and never go to the doctor unless I'm really sick which has not been for a few years. I just had bloodwork done last year at work and everything checked out good, even my cholesteral was good. No real stress in my life, work out regularly....

So, should I be concerned about this muscle spasm?

I tried searching online, but couldn't find out much info when there is no pain associated with it.

TIA!

Can you describe it better?

The muscle spasms I've had in the chest area have usually been around the rib cage area and they are very painful--like a Charlie Horse.

I did have muscle pain in my upper chest once, from being tense I think and I was just sore all the time. No real spasms.

I'm not sure I'm quite understanding what you are feeling.

No pain at all. It is on the right side of my chest, just above the pectoral area. You know when you have a little twitch or something, it is kind of like that. It only lasts a couple of seconds, but happens often. It is hard to describe b/c there is absolutely no pain at all, just a twitching-like sensation. If I was having pain, I'd call the doctor. But, there is no pain at all, so I'm thinking to just ignore it. It's more annoying than anything else. I was just curious if anyone else had this or knew what it could be caused from.

Does it feel like heart palpitations? If so, it is probably nothing serious, but you should have it checked by a doctor. How much caffeine do you drink? I have heard caffeine can affect palpitations.

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a muscle twitch versus a spasm. Sometimes they can caused by vitamin deficiencies so you might just want to take a multi if you don't already. They can also be caused by nothing at all!

I agree with you, I wouldn't even go to the doc for that. But I know these "oddities" can be annoying.

I don't know. I don't know what a heart palpitation feels like. No, I don't drink much caffeine. I pretty much drink water all day, no coffee at all. I will occasionally have a soda, but only 1-2 cans a week. I have no idea whether to call this a spasm, twitch, or palpitation.........I just know I've never had it before and it is definitely noticeable.

Thanks for the responses. I do take a prenatal vitamin daily so that takes care of that one. No, I'm not pregnant.........

I'll probably just wait and hope it goes away sooner than later! As long as there is no pain, I'm not too concerned.........

This happened to me a few years ago. I had a twitch on the left side of my chest near the heart area. No pain, just a twitch, and it woke me up in the middle of the night and kept me awake. I though it might be a heart problem, so I went to the doctor. He checked me out and did and EKG and everything was normal. It was funny because you could see the muscle move when I was being examined. He decided it was nothing serious and after a few days it went away. Kind of annoying though.

I get heart palps often--when you have one you will know it. Plus, for me, they are definitely in the area on the LEFT side of my chest (right under my left breast) and you are complaining of your right pectoral area, correct? Heart palps can feel like a "thud" or a "thump" or some rapid fluttering but the sensation will feel that it is coming from below the rib cage. Too me, it never feels muscular.

I'm no expert, but since I had my back surgery I've learned more than I ever thought I would want to know about back issues.

Any problem associated with the back can cause spasms. Before my surgery, I had horrible leg spasms and cramps due to my problems in the lumbar region. Pain and/or spasms in the chest area may be caused by something going on in the thoracic region.

Your situation doesn't sound too severe, but if it continues or increases or you begin to have pain, ask your dr. to consider the possibility of injury to the thoracic region of your back.
